Yes...an interesting question, and the article only addresses it tangentially. Here, the left wing of the ethnic groups preach separatism (eg., bilingual education, Kwanzaa) and tries to keep their groups out of mainstream Americanism. I don't know if there is such movement over there.

The MSM sucks. They raise more questions than they answer, though that wouldn't be hard since they answer jack.
Two observations:
1. The treatment of immigrants by the French brings to mind how France recently told Eastern Eurpoean countries to defer to those who are more sophisticated.
2. Only immigrants of noble heritage have truly been integrated into French society.

The person who wrote that CNN news story is an idiot, and so is the newscaster who read it.
CNN's policy: write everything to give the worst possible slant on America, liberty, and freedom. It is truly an instrument of our enemy.
And a willingness to raise up both arms in the presence of Germans.

mewzilla, yes its that bad over there. for instance, in france if you are from any of the former colonies, which all happen to be populated by darker skinned people, they will refer to you as a pie noir. it means black foot. it is a derogratory term. they have others, but even i wont use them. once on a train i had the occasion of watching a black man, later i learned he was tunisian, come into our compartment. the white french got up and moved to another compartment. another french person i know in france will take his own utensils to restaurants, so he will never eat with the same spoon, fork etc that a black has touched. anecdotal to be sure, but its there and when you combine racism with islam, you are just asking for immense trouble.
It's time to call in the Rev. Jesse and Al Sharpton to investigate the the electrocution deaths carried out by the French!

CNN believes African-Americans are always to blame for riots.

Maybe in the "gay state", but here in the South we still live as "true Americans". Come visit us, but be warned that you may never want to go "home".

The matter of assimilation is almost completely the fault of the socialist government. There will always be groups of radicals to deal with but the majority would assimilate under a capitalist system. France has crowded them into ghettos they have almost no chance in France of leaving.
imo humble opinion, if any part of the america that once was is to survive, it will be in the south. the south is america, no question. overwhelming numbers of officers for out military comes from the south. i am not mocking other parts, but those other parts are tainted to a much larger degree than the south. btw, im not from the south, but i call it as i see it.
This can only be the statement of someone who doesn't include himself among "the French." He didn't say, "some French," or, "the white French," or, "the Catholic French."
