Bass calls for new GOP House leadership
New Hampshire Union Leader ^ | November 16, 2005 | Staff

Posted on 11/16/2005 2:36:05 AM PST by Past Your Eyes

Concord — Five-term Republican Rep. Charles Bass said this week his party’s leaders in the House of Representatives are more concerned about their own pet projects than the GOP’s "fundamental principles."

Bass, co-chair of a group of about 35 moderate House Republicans called the "Tuesday Group," is calling for new elections in leadership next year "so we have a fresh slate of officers outside of the speaker for the next session of the Congress."

His comments came in interviews yesterday with the New Hampshire Union Leader and on Monday with Boston radio station WBUR-FM.

He said he is not interested in running for a leadership post himself and was not specifically calling for anyone in leadership to be "thrown out." He also said he has no specific action in mind to try to force a vote.

"Who are these 35 Moderate (liberal) Republicans?"

My bet is that the vast majority of them are out of New England and western states.

I'd be surprised to find more than 2 or 3 southerners in the group.

Somewhere, on another thread, it was said that Soros was financing these "moderates". Does anyone have links to support this?

Thanks! I had forgotten about Specter, but I thought that there were threads about these congresscritters against ANWR, too.

Everytime the Republicans run moderate, we lose elections (nationally). Any time we move conservative, the press makes it looks like we are going to lose and we always end up winning.

Bass should be stripped of his committee positions and given an office in the broom closet. But that would take a spine and it looks like the GOP left theirs in the jellyfish bowl.

That's impossible . Where would the likes of John Conyers have his "meetings". ;-)

LETTERS TO THE GOP
By Michelle Malkin · November 10, 2005 10:41 AM
Reader reaction to the GOP cave-in on ANWR has been overwhelming. I'm reprinting just a small sample of letters that came in this morning from conservatives fed-up with Republican "leadership."

Update 1120am EST. I'll keep adding letters throughout the day.

Update 1145am EST. Many of you are asking for the list of the anti-drilling Republicans. The group who succeeded in pressuring the GOP to cave in calls itself the "Republican Main Street Partnership." They're holding a press conference at 130pm EST in Washington, D.C. to bray about their "victory." Here's some more info:

Main Street Leaders who helped broker the deal to eliminate ANWR from budget cuts: Rep. Charlie Bass (R-NH), Rep. Mark Kirk (R-IL), Rep. Jim Walsh (R-NY), Rep. Joe Schwarz (R-MI), RMSP Executive Director Sarah Chamberlain Resnick
Here's the complete list of "Main Street" members in Congress.

1pm EST. Guess who is funding the "Main Street" moderates? George Soros and friends. (Hat tip: David Martosko)

Someone get a hook, stick this Bass in the lip and reel him off the stage already!

DeLay will soon be back to hammer this RINO and I can't wait.

I only wish we had a means to put his name in a hat along with the names of the other 34 and the rino heard in the senate, in a hat. Then pull out three from congress and one from the senate. Those pulled would then be primaried. If they survived the rat would get funded to beat him/her.
Done fairly and at random it would get their attention.

"This little pipsqueak is, unfortunately, my congressman. He is so far back on the back bench that he needs Horton to hear him there in Whoville. He is the epitome of a RINO." HE MUST BE DRINKING H2O FROM MASS. IS EXSENATOR SMITH AVAILABLE TO RUN HIM DOWN IN A PRIMARY?

Anyone who calls himself a moderate after all the Democrat perfidy doesn't even deserve to hold office as a Republican. What will it take for these lily-livered RINOS to realize that the battle lines have been drawn and we must engage the enemy, the Lib Dems?

Ex-Senator Smith has moved to Florida and not a moment too soon. But even if he still lived in NH, he'd be in the other district, which he used to represent in the House.
Bob Smith was (maybe is?) a good fellow. But he was big into this "environmental" stuff and protecting circus animals against cruelty, etc. I can say without a doubt that he would be against drilling in ANWR.
Towards the end of it, he was well off the reservation. Remember his leaving the Republican party on principal and then conveniently returning when it meant the chairmanship of a committee? I believe we're better off without him.
