British MP: US Army Is Defeated in Iraq
CNS News ^ | November 17, 2005 | Sherrie Gossett

Posted on 11/17/2005 10:29:13 AM PST by Nachum

(CNSNews.com) - America is defeated in Iraq, British Prime Minister Tony Blair is a "slave of slaves," and the political strength of President George W. Bush is beginning to "seep away into the sand," according to British MP George Galloway who made the remarks in a speech delivered this week at Damascus University in Syria.

The remarks were carried by the Al-Jazeera TV network on November 13.

"America is losing the war in Iraq," said Galloway. "[P]ublic opinion in Britain and America is moving decisively against the policy of Bush and Blair."

"No American soldier who leaves his barracks can be sure that he will come back alive," said the MP who has previously described insurgents in Iraq as "martyrs" who "are writing the names of their cities and towns in the stars..."

"Every Iraqi, every roadside, every car is a potential deadly ending for him. And the American army... The American army is losing the will to fight."

"[T]hese are the final days of Tony Blair," said Galloway. "The British media is discussing every day whether this day Blair will resign."

Galloway praised Syrian president Bashar al-Assad, calling him "the last Arab ruler" of "the last Arab country."

Syria is being "targeted by these imperial powers" for doing "good" -- namely, for refusing to betray the "Palestinian resistance" and the "Lebanese resistance," Hezbollah, Galloway said. Syria also is being targeted because its leaders would not allow American military bases on its soil to "crush the resistance in Iraq."

"There is no chance of the American army invading Syria," Galloway said. "[T]he Iraqi resistance are defeating the American army in Iraq."

Last Sunday Galloway also met with Dr. Mahmoud al-Abrash, the speaker Syrian parliament. The MP praised the country and its president as a "man who refuses subordination."

Syria is now widely believed to be the rear-base of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, leader of al Qaeda operations in Iraq. German investigators have linked Syrian intelligence to the Hamburg cell that produced the 9/11 hijackers, and in 2001 Spanish authorities dismantled the largest al Qaeda cell in Europe which was said to be composed mainly of Syrian nationals. Letters addressed to the head of Syrian intelligence were found in the home of one of the members.

Nevertheless, Galloway called Syria "the fortress of the remaining dignity of the Arabs"

In his speech Galloway painted a utopian vision of Arab unity leading to superpower status. "This is not a dream, you know," said Galloway, who pointed to the unification achieved by the European Union as an example for the Arab world.

"[W]e are making a European Union which in 20 years will balance the power of the United States of America, inshallah (Allah willing.)."

A partial transcript of the remarks was posted on the Middle East Media Research Institute website.

Known for peppering his pro-Islamist rhetoric with quotes from Lenin and Mao, Galloway is no stranger to controversy. In remarks previously made on Arab television the fiery left-wing MP called Bush and Blair "terrorists" saying "the real criminals are in Washington."

Since April 2003 Galloway has been dogged by allegations that he accepted bribes from the Iraqi oil ministry. The allegations reportedly were based on internal documents of Saddam Hussein's regime uncovered by investigators in Iraq.

Galloway's advisers have expressed reservations about the authenticity of the documents, stating that they have been shown only English translations.

In May of this year, Galloway rejected new allegations that he profited from Saddam Hussein's oil-for-food program and then lied about it under oath before the US Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.

Last month Galloway was named in the final report of the U.N. oil-for-food investigation, which listed entities and individuals it accused of conspiring with Saddam Hussein's regime to defraud the humanitarian operation of $1.8 billion. The accusations stand in stark contrast to Galloway's previous denunciations of Iraq sanctions as inhumane.

Galloway has strongly denied the allegations, telling the media, "Let me once again repeat. I have never benefited from any oil deal and I have never asked anyone to act on my behalf."

Supporters of Galloway have dubbed the accusations a smear campaign.

Apparently Galloway has sold his soul to Hell thinking he will get a reward.

The last laugh will be on him.

Sounds like sour grapes to me. After all, if we had not gone into Iraq, this guy would still be making money.

A year ago I would have laughed these comments off as insane ravings from a fringe politician.Unfortunately people like Galloway are now winning the public relations battle for the minds of the general public. Bush, Cheney, and the non-Rinos need to keep the recent counterattack going. Do not yield the field to the likes of Galloway and Kennedy again.

Interesting tactic, but an old one.

Keep screaming "Defeat" no matter what the facts say.

Seems to working to, judging by the poll numbers. At least Bush and Chaney are starting to fight back, but it is to little to late.

"America is losing the war in Iraq," said Galloway.

I'd like to hear him explain how, exactly.

Seems pretty clear to me that we're winning. Arguably, as Michael Graham so eloquently pointed out, we have already one, and are now basically in a mopping up phase.

*The "insurgents" in Iraq have not won a single tactical victory.
*They have largely given up attacking coalition forces and now blow up Iraqi fellow Muslim citizens.
*As a result, they have lost the support of the Iraqi people to the point where even the Sunnis are split in their support now.
*They appear to be hurting for money.
*They have no secure base of operations in Iraq anymore.
*They were unable to disrupt the recent elections, and in fact couldn't even make a credible showing of it. Moreover, even a large number of Sunnis rejected the violence and turned out to vote.
*They have no ideology.
*Iraqi troops are advancing in proficiency towards a day when US troops can withdraw (although personnaly I would like to see a permanent base there for at least the next 20 years).

So I'd like an explanation of how we are losing, or have already lost, in Iraq.

I actually was concerned as I clicked on the headline. But then I saw that it was Galloway.

Not mentioning Galloway in the headline is a deliberate distortion by the writer. It's sort of like saying "Former US Attorney General wants to file war crimes charges against Bush" and you have to read into the article to see that the guy making the charges is moonbat Ramsey Clark.

Galloway is so desperate to stay out of jail that he will say absolutely anything at this point.
