Hastert Saddened by Rep. Murtha's CommentsSays Democrats have adopted a policy of "cut and run"
The Speaker's Blog ^ | 11/17/05 | Ron Bonjean

Posted on 11/17/2005 12:21:30 PM PST by HastertFan

(Washington, D.C.) House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-IL) released the following statement in response to comments by Rep. John Murtha (D-PA) regarding the War on Terror.

“I am saddened by the comments made today by Rep. Murtha. It is clear that as Nancy Pelosi’s top lieutenant on armed services, Rep. Murtha and Democratic leaders have adopted a policy of cut and run. They would prefer that the United States surrender to the terrorists who would harm innocent Americans. To add insult to injury, this is done while the President is on foreign soil.

“Four years ago, America as we knew it changed. The terrorists attacked our people and attacked our nation. Nearly 3,000 Americans lost their lives. Families were destroyed, and our children lost their sense of peace. On that day, we learned that we no longer had a choice. Failure to act – and act strongly – left our nation vulnerable to Osama bin Laden and his band of terrorist followers.

“But now, Rep. Murtha and other Democrats want us to retreat. They want us to wave the white flag of surrender to the terrorists of the world. It is unfortunate that this is all politics all the time. We need to have a strong consistent policy that will protect our men and women who are fighting to protect us overseas. We must not cower like European nations who are now fighting terrorists on their soil.

“This is the highest insult to the brave men and women serving overseas. They have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our citizens, our way of life and our ideals of freedom and democracy. And they have done excellent work. In the four years since September 11th, the United States and our partners have disrupted at least 10 major terrorist attacks. Three of those attacks were planned on U.S. soil.

“I have known John Murtha to be a long-term veteran of this institution. He has stood up for our troops and has helped to provide them with the right equipment to do their job. We all saw the same pained faces among Americans when terrorists slammed into the Twin Towers. Did he see the faces the rest of America saw when terrorists plowed into the Pentagon or when the plane that was headed for a Washington target went down in Pennsylvania? I saw the faces that day, and, Mr. Murtha, that was no illusion.”

This was just posted on the Speaker's Blog. It is in response to John Murtha's call that the U.S. "cut and run" from Iraq. I applaud the Speaker and the House Republicans for standing up for our men and women of the armed services. Mr. Murtha is wrong, wrong, wrong!

Dear Congresscritters:

It is my understanding some members of Congress are considering an exit strategy for Iraq. Would you kindly encourage them to undertake the exit strategy for Germany, Japan, Korea, and then Bosnia first?

It pains me when so many elected representatives join forces with the lunatic left for the sole purpose undermining our President and the morale of my soldiers fighting the War on Terror. And frankly, most of us consider such an alliance as despicable. I hope that I haven't sacrificed my civilian career by giving four years away from my family as a Reservist on Active Duty since September 11, 2001 for this sort of political nonsense.

The only viable Iraq exit strategy: All Islaminazi terrorists lay down their arms worldwide. That hasn’t happened yet. The Iraq exit plan: All remaining Islaminazi terrorists are dead.

Sincerely,
OLA

Murtha's statement must have been really over the top to get this response. In essence, for a rinking US Senator to say this about another politician. It is tatamount to calling them a rotten, no good bastard and SOB directly to their face.

Pubbies have come dangerously close to being lumped in with the "cut-and-run" crowd.

Rino's are most definitely 'Frenchies'. In modern times however the 'Frenchies' themselves apparently prefer to be called 'Greater Algerians'. Republican senators in general: care first about themselves and their reelection; they care second about the Senate; they care third about their party; and apparently they care last about the country and its defense.

I heard Murtha's statement on the radio and wanted to scream. Then I saw his picture -- he should be retired from the Congress. He is now becoming a disgrace to the uniform he wore so proudly. What's with these RATs? Don't they understand they are putting our military in harm's way with their reckless statements.

What does he mean "adopted" ? This has been their strategy since the war was two weeks old. Like Congressman Billybob said in a different thread (too tired to find the link), an exit strategy is a strategy for defeat, not victory. Victory only comes when the enemy decides it has had enough and surrenders. Not one minute before.

As I remember the statement, Murtha mentioned how he had served in the Military, and VP Dick Cheney got 5 deferments, and sent our soldiers off to fight and die.

That statement got me upset because we have soldiers in the field and it is demoralizing to them. - Tom

The rats are truly the most treasonous in our country. I'm just shocked that they'd stoop this low, during a time of war, to dishonor our brave troops in harm's way. We DO NOT CUT AND RUN, PERIOD.

It seems to me that the US must be very close to victory in Iraq. If so, then Bush and the Republicans would gain politically. That is probably the reason for all these outbursts by Democrats in recent weeks. They want a withdrawal before success arrives.

Murtha Supports Iraq Resolution with Reservations

WASHINGTON, DC, October 9, 2002 -- Congressman John Murtha today said he would vote for the resolution authorizing military force against Iraq despite a number of serious reservations.

Murtha said, “Obviously we have reason to be concerned about Saddam Hussein -- there’s no question that he’s a real threat to us and we need to make sure he’s not developing nuclear, chemical or biological weapons to use against us or against other nations in the Middle East. We also need to make sure that Iraq does not resume Afghanistan’s former role as the host nation for terrorist training camps.

“But I’ve urged great caution before we move forward with military action against Iraq. My concerns have been heard -- we’ve seen a major shift in the White House position, and the resolution that will come up before the House will address my two biggest concerns. The resolution will make clear that we need the support of other nations before we proceed, and that we need Congressional approval before we commit forces. So the resolution will demonstrate our national resolve to Hussein and increase the pressure on him to open the doors for full and unfettered inspections,” he said.

Pentagon Cites Progress in Iraq Democracy

Friday, July 22, 2005

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Pentagon told Congress on Thursday that progress toward establishing democracy in Iraq is on track despite an adaptable and deadly insurgency, but it offered no estimate of when U.S. troops would start withdrawing.

In its most comprehensive public assessment yet of conditions in Iraq, the military released a 23-page report that described progress and problems on the political, economic and security fronts.

Some Democrats were quick to criticize, saying the accounting fell short of helping the public understand when U.S. troops can leave.

"They missed an opportunity," said Rep. John Murtha of Pennsylvania, the lead Democrat on the House Appropriations subcommittee on defense. He said the report lacks specific criteria for judging when Iraq will be stable enough for U.S. troops, now numbering 138,000, to withdraw.

The report says the key will be reaching the point when Iraqi security forces are trained and equipped at a level at which they can assume primary responsibility. The report does not estimate when that will happen.

"How do you measure success? That's the criteria that we aren't getting," Murtha said.

As for the training of Iraqi troops, Murtha said: "We've got a long ways to go, let's put it that way. ... They just aren't ready to take over."

CommieDems is the term we should all be using. They obviously have forgotten 9-11. See the Clinton strategy at work here -- first the impeached Clinton opens his mouth overseas, and then we get the outpouring of RAT comments who not only hurt the morale of our troops but embolden our enemies.

This bunch of spineless traitor RATs would probably nominate Bin Laden to run for President since he is so misunderstood if he agreed to run as a RAT. They give Bin Laden more credibility then they give The President.

In the four years since September 11th, the United States and our partners have disrupted at least 10 major terrorist attacks.

I wish we knew how many lives were potentially saved by disrupting these attacks. Although there is no way of knowing chances are it would be more than the 2000 brave soldiers that have been lost doing the work that needs to be done to disrupt these terrorist bastards.
