In what is coming to appear a coordinated attack on President Bush, attorney Lawrence Tribe was just on Fox News, faulting Judge Alito as a 'dangerous reactionary' who threatens Tribe's grand-daughter with his 'far-right views on denying a woman's right to an abortion.' He all but promised a fillibuster on the Alito nomination 'for the good of the country.' Tribe would not make such a prediction without having first consulted with Senatorial Leftists.
This seems too pat, coming upon yesterday's Dem demand that we cut and run in Iraq.
It seems clear that unless Bush is willing to get down and dirty with the Rabid Left, and quickly, he is going to lose Alito and perhaps Iraq. The question is whether he can and will. If the Republicans let disaster fall upon us while they control Congress and the White House, I suggest that there is no future for the Republican Party as it is constituted today. I know Bush is a gentleman in the real sense and that he is not interested in the gutter politics of the Left. But how do you defeat the Left by maintaining a civil manner?
who the RATs paraded in front of the Judiciary Committee during the Bork(SCOTUS) confirmation hearings, so he could 'Bork' the hell out of Bork.
Alito's world By Laurence H. Tribe. November 7, 2005~~~snip~~ "Or consider Alito's opinion upholding Pennsylvania's ban on abortions (PP v Casey) by women too fearful to tell their husbands what they are contemplating doing. The Supreme Court reversed, using the case to reaffirm Roe v. Wade's core holding in an opinion by Justices O'Connor, Kennedy, and Souter. Recounting the appalling incidence of spousal abuse that the notification requirement aggravated, that opinion exposed the illogic of regarding the resulting burden as somehow diminished by all the unmarried women to whom the ban simply didn't apply.
More blah, blah, blah.....
Tribe knows, and is lying, or he's an idiot - that the Pennsylvania Law had exceptions to the notification requirement when spousal abuse was a possibility. Tribe also knows dam well that Alito was using O'Connor's previous definition of undue burden when he wrote his dissent in Casey. Furthermore, it was Sandy baby herself who pulled a 180 when Casey got to SCOTUS and she redefined her previous definition of 'undue burden'.
Ergo, anything this bonehead says about Alito carries as much weight as John Kerry would in giving a dissertation on Thoracic Surgery.
About as nonsensical as them actually giving a real hoot about the good of the country...
Professor Tribe was pretty good during the Monica Lewinsky thingy. Gosh, he should just stick to sex and cigars.
