A North York church group is fighting to curb the alarming rate of unplanned pregnancies among high school girls living in west-end housing complexes.
Members of the Abundant Life Pentecostal Church on Dixon Rd. said they're concerned for the girls and their fatherless babies. They are aware of one youth who has impregnated more than a dozen schoolgirls.
"Some of these studs have made 10 or more girls pregnant," said Pastor Al Bowen. "Many others have made two or three pregnant."
Bowen and volunteers of the Kuriou Foundation have been conducting outreach for 15 years in housing complexes in Jane-Finch, Rexdale and Jamestown Cres.
The group is trying to change the thinking of some residents, who accept the high rate of single black teens getting pregnant.
Bowen said children born without a father figure tend to gravitate to crime. He said more than half of the 47 men shot to death in Toronto this year were from single-parent families.

A particular Chris Rock skit comes to mind...
Hey, it is socialism! Free health care, free apartment for life, welfare for life.
All you have to do to get on this life-long gravy train is get pregnant!
"He said more than half of the 47 men shot to death"
One way or another, they just can't stop shooting their guns, can they? Socialism is a wonderful thing. It is Bush's fault.
Yeah, and I know what all the girlies are saying...
"But he's soooooooo hawt! And he really loves me! He said so!"
Loose morals are one thing, but there's no helping stupidity.
Best wishes to the church. I admire their efforts.
Of course none of theses girls are ashamed to soon be unwed mothers.
Or "ashamed" to be the brunt of ONE little boy who thinks he's the big man.....wait till the kids grow up.....sheesh....what about the parent of the boy, btw?
It looks like the Abundant Life church isn't for abundant life.
Find these deadbeat asshole men and castrate them.
(1) I wonder what race the boys are and (2) what age and race the girls are.
My sister has a child with a black guy; nephew is #3 of 7 from this idiot, all different mothers, and only 1 with a black woman (the last, whom he married). There is a certain underground culture amongst the blacks where the goal is to impregnate as many white women as possible.
Before anyone jumps on me, I've dated black women in the past, so this is not about inter-racial dating. It's about this "hip-hop culture" crap that is part of what is wrecking our country.
"There is no sex in the champagne room. Oh, there's champagne in the champagne room, but you don't want champagne, you want sex, and there is no sex in the champagne room...."
Yeppers; that is what the Toronto politicoes claim. "If only the nasty, mean spirited, irresponsible, LOUSY NEIGHBOR, George W. Bush, would end the U.S. gun culture, and stop those EVIL guns from crossing into Canada, Canadians would stop killing each other."
Less is more. These girls would have a more abundant life, if they had less abundantly produced life.
"Less is more."
Less life around to compete with those of us that made it? Doesn't sound very pro-life.
"These girls would have a more abundant life, if they had less abundantly produced life."
If the important thing is the lifestyle of the mother, then we're back to sounding not very pro-life. And what about the life they produced? That's a good thing, right?
The article says "black"
"lured?" What kind of bait are they dangling?
Round up these studs, identify them as the father by DNA tests and get a court order for child support. If they're out of work, then have the courts threaten them with jail time like they would any other man failing to pay child support.
Loose morals are a great example of stupidity.
So responsibility means nothing? Vive le studs?
Promiscuity and fornication are a good thing, not to be discouraged, as long as it creates more life to "celebrate?
Does that make abstinance not pro-life, because is prevents conception?
I must say, I just do not understand what you are objecting to.
Objecting? No, just pointing out the irony of a group purporting to be for abundant life that isn't for a abundance of lives. You hear often around these parts that there is no such thing as overpopulation, that more is better.
But as we have seen, that isn't necessarily true.
As you put it, sometimes less is more, but that's hardly prolife. There are contradictions at work here.
Loose morals are symptom of a lack of character, not intelligence.
