I CANNOT BELIEVE REP. JEAN SCHMIDT WAS FORCED TO APOLOGIZE FOR QUOTING A MARINE!

Posted on 11/18/2005 4:16:30 PM PST by MikeA

Forgive the vanity, but I just heard that Rep. Jean Schmidt, the newest Republcan congresswoman from Ohio, had to withdraw her remarks in the debate about the bill about withdrawl from Iraq. She was merely quoting a Marine who wrote her and said of Democratic appeaesment "Cowards cut and run. Marines finish the job." Why on earth would she be made to apologize for this? She was not directly calling anyone cowards, but these Democrats are most assuredly that for their emerging cut and run policy on Iraq.

It's amazing, Democrats can make the most outrageous comments attacking the president on the floor of the House accusing the president of lying to get America into war and other such slanders, but Schmidt quotes a Marine far better than any of those low lives on the Democratic side and she's made to apologize?? Nancy Piglosi regularly makes the most ugly and vile accusations against the president and never is she called to account for it.

Amazing, even when the Republicans finally go bare knuckles against these Scumbagcrats, still the Republicans act like wussies and back down from saying what should be said. Heck, what Schmidt said is the least that should be said against these Rats. We should be on the floor calling them seditious liars emboldening our enemies and causing our allies in Iraq to doubt our staying power which will only prolong how long it takes to hand over security to the Iraqis.

Why is it wrong to quote a Marine who is dead-on accurate but okay to take to the floor of the House like Murtha did and give a morale boost to our enemies who today celebrated their big moral and political victories in Congress this week by blowing up Shiites in their mosques and setting off car bombs across Bagdhad. Why is it wrong to call them on this and lay the blood spilt today at their feet? Why is decorum more important than standing up to people bluntly and candidly who advocate for things that will greatly damage American security? Why is it wrong to expose them for what they are but Murtha is worshipped as a hero for giving a tremendous energy boost to our enemies while demoralizing our troops and our allies in Iraq? When will anyone ask Murtha what the cost will be when we're forced to go back into Iraq if we retreat now to end the rogue, Al Qaeda regime that will take over there and turn Iraq into another Afghanistan?

We're living in a topsy-turvy country right now where right is considered wrong and wrong considered right. And we have few moral voices to speak up against it. And when they do, they're swatted down even by members of their own party. Our republic is in jeopardy my friends.

She had to withdraw her remarks because she started the Marine's statement with, Representative Murtha ..." On the floor, are not supposed to call out Representatives by name. Everyone got the point.

I think there is a House rule that prevents members from addressing one another directly from the floor. She should have had a procedural guru tell her how to have it entered and read.

The Dims jumped on procedure. At least, that's the way I understand it.

But she, and the Marine, hit the nail squarely on it's hate-America head.

"On the floor, are not supposed to call out Representatives by name. Everyone got the point."

Thanks for the explanation. I sure didn't hear that in the bite that was played on the news. What a silly piece of decorum. I can see if another congressperson's name is used to insult or embarrass them, and I guess some might construe that's what she was trying to do, but her point was bigger than that, it being that our men who are there want to finish this fight. She was right to make it. I would have let them expel me from Congress before I would have retracted a word of it. If only the House had such concern for decorum when it comes to the kinds of slanders regularly thrown out against the president of the United States.

I was ticked at that too, Mike.

What the Marine said was something like "And please address this to Rep. Murtha. Cowards cut and run. Marines never run."

The left went nuts on behalf of Murtha. If the e-mail hadn't had his name in it, I don't believe she would have withdrawn it.

What Congresswoman Schmidt did was gutsy- it needed to be said and heard.

"Our Republic is just fine right now. There is a PROCEDURAL rule that doesn't allow a member to call out another member by name."

This incident is not the only one that makes me say our Republic is in jeopardy. That Americans are claiming Clinton is more honest than Bush, that Democrats can now feel safe advocating a cut and run policy from Iraq because Americans are enabling them, that Americans say they want evil, congenital liars with no vision, no agenda beyond "we hate Bush" back in charge of Congress, that we have a news media actively working with Democrats to shape perceptions against the war and for every left wing position there is, that we have so many who have forgotten 9-11 and think we can afford to retreat from Al Qaeda, and on and on and on...we're in trouble my friend. Deceit and lies are winning. Truth is on the ropes. There is no silent majority advocating what's right anymore...

Now we have a WOMAN Republican giving it back to them and they howl with outrage. Wish I could vote for her. Jean Schmidt has raised the bar for her fellow congress persons---

Yes, it's like when the attorney says, "Your honor, I withdraw the question." Then the judge says, "The members of the jury are to ingore that remark."

Heh, heh. Right.

She essentially said, "Members of Congress, I apologize for calling our Mr. Murtha when I read a letter from a Marine who implied he is a coward for cutting and running."

I don't see how she could be "made" to apologize for saying that. If she apologized, then it's her mistake, and her weakness. Unfortunately, the current delegation of Republicans is not as strong as it should be.

If someone demanded that she apologize, then she should have turned it around and demanded an apology of that person, on behalf of the US Marines.

I so ab-so-lutely agree. But she was fantastic. All the R's were. I cannot put the contempt I feel for the dms into freep-acceptable language. That Tierney is typical of the dregs of humanity that are stinking up the chamber. The last decent man left Mass. when John Adams died.

And PS: John Murtha is no hawk and he's no hero as far as I am concerned. Here's his noble record. Was he in charge of washing the General's jeep or what?
..............
Professional Experience:
Marine Corps Reserve, 1967-1990
Small Business Owner/Operator, 1967-1978
Volunteer, United States Marine Corps, Vietnam War, 1966-1967
Colonel, United States Marine Corps, 1952-1955
Car Wash Owner/Operator.

And they make fun of Delay being an exterminator. At least he worked.

"If you are going to believe the biased polling that's out there, then you have something to worry about. "

I am the first to admit that the polling is biased, over-representing Democrats as it does. But even if you eliminate that skew there are still far too many people not thinking and forming the kinds of positions these polls indicate. Even if only 40% of Americans actually think Clinton more honest than Bush, that still indicates our country is in trouble and quickly heading into amorality, just not as much trouble as the biased polls show.
