Did Saddam Hussein Account for the VX known to have been Produced? No.
The Weekly Standard ^ | 11-18-2005 | Daniel McKivergan

Iraq admitted in 1995 that it had produced nearly four tons of VX, but UN inspectors believed Saddam had imported 600 tons of VX precursors -- enough to produce 200 tons of the nerve agent.

VX was clearly important to the regime. According to UNMOVIC’s March 6, 2003 report,

[i]n a top secret letter, written in 1987 by the Director-General of Al Muthanna [a large chemical weapons production and storage facility near Baghdad] to senior government officials, the importance of the agent to Iraq was recognized. In the letter, VX was compared to a nuclear weapon: “two tons carried by an aircraft compare with a medium nuclear bomb of 20 kilotons.” The letter continued that its possession “…ushers us into the [field] of armament of advanced countries.”

A better question might be, did the Democrats account for it? Do they even give a rat's arse? It's still out there somewhere spineless Democrats.

Too funny, an MSDS for a nerve agent. Gee, I wonder why it gets a 4 for Health on the HMIS diamond?

According to Colin Powel's clandestine recording of Saddam's henchmen (played for the U.N.), clearly showed that the killers had removed and hidden ALL the WMD to parts unknown.

What more did he need to convince the libs that we're in jeopardy!!?? DUH!!

Thanks! A very good link with good references.

Previously today I made a search on Brewster-Jennings, the CIA front company, where Valerie Plame was employed. I found the most fantastic, weird posts.

According to some bloggers (on the far left side of the spectrum) Brewster-Jennings managed to stop smuggling of binary VX gas to Iraq via Turkey (2002). The DU and Wayne Madsen asserts this was a neo-con operation, to make sure that WMDs were going to be found in Iraq. Furthermore this is supposed to be the reason for the anger shown by the US administration vis a vis Wilson, Plame etc.

Of course, no references, no dates, no nothing - not even a consideration regarding the time line of various events or the likelihood that this feverish imagination contains even a shred of truth.

This was my first, and probably last, visit at the DU site. I felt like I was visiting the psychotic ward in an asylum.

Truly a parallel universe - so happy I found my way back through the mirror.

:)

I wish the sheeple would realize the "There Was No WMD!" crowd is just nuts, and worse. Of COURSE there was WMD in Iraq, along with mass graves, torture houses, children's prisons, and a whole host of other atrocities. The incredible popularity President Bush enjoyed early in the war as Iraq was being liberated just simply drove the Left completely insane. So it was that they had to use something as innocuous as a line in a State of the Union address to have ANYTHING to hang onto.

And the mainstream media shamefully helped the screeching Left by amplifying that innocuous line into a full-blown "scandal." It was all they had, too, to attack this popular President with -- until they started manufacturing things out of whole cloth.

No reasonable person can doubt hat removing Saddam was the right thing to do. As a sponsor of terrorism ($25,000 to the families of homicide bombers, offering sanctuary to known terrorists), it was essential he be eliminated early as a factor in the War on Terror. Iraq also provided a chance to show the Mideast that the United States meant business in the wake of 9/11, and an opportunity to show how democracy can work in the region.

The war is, all things considered, a smashing success. Just imagine how it would be being applauded in the MSM if Bill Clinton was running it: we'd be seeing the opening of every new school, hospital and power plant on the nightly news, with Bill Himself cutting the ribbons. The Iraqi election and new constitution would have made Lindbergh-sized headlines, and Bill would probably have won the Nobel Peace Prize.

But the Dems and the MSM are just irrationally incapable of admitting the war conducted by President Bush is any sort of success, because the "Bush Bash" is the very last weapon left in their arsenal. They're nothing but con artists trying to prop up a failed and outmoded belief system, and it seems they will literally kill to do it.

As a great man once said, words that should be heeded now even more than then: the wheel has turned, and it is time for them to go.

I've read a number of times that the more advanced nerve gases like VX have a limited shelf life. One of them, dunno if it's VX, lasts only a few months. There were reports they'd dump the bad stuff every so often and make a new batch.

There's some question as to whether Saddam found (or obtained) a formula for more durable deadly agents.

The older gases like mustard have much longer shelf lives.

Do we have to excerpt "The Weekly Standard"?

Good article. Can you imagine if some of that VX is here?I suspect that most of Saddams chem and bio stocks were sent to Syria(or Iran?)before we got to Baghdad(deniability). What would stop terrorists from using same in NYC or LA?

You were visiting the sicko ward. If they were going to plant the WMD as postulated, why did they not bring the stuff out and show it off instead of saying we didn't find anything?

Good post. I am still waiting like the Energizer Bunny to hear explainations from those that claim he had no active WMD programs after the first Gulf War, to explain why our troops found vials of atropine and syringes laying on dirty floors of ordanance depots that contained mixed artillery rounds and amoung them binary shells. Who is *hiting who. Atropine is used to cancel the effects brought on by exposeer to some of the VX nerve gas agents.

And why don't we hear from Colin Powell or Richard Armitage on these issues?

Aha! Because they are back being lobbyists for the Saudis!

I get it now!

How dare you post these Bush lies. Everyone knows that Saddam never had WMD's, never had an interest in WMD's, never had anything to do with terrorism, and Bush made it all up to enrich the fat cat oil companies.

I know, I know!

That is just one of the most glaring weaknesses of their "theory".

And everyone just seemed to chime in - just sick!

If the US had 6 months or a year to hide or get rid of all our WMDs, who doesn't believe that we could do it? So, why do all the nit wits believe that Saddam wasn't capable of getting rid of his much smaller stock piles?
