For his part, Mr. Murtha, a decorated, retired Marine Corps colonel, said his goal was to let Iraqis know they must step forward and take control. "All of Iraq must know Iraq is free -- free from United States occupation."

An occupation!? Hardly.

It's not a job. It's an adventure.

Didn't you know that Mr. Murtha?

Murtha believes US forces are an "occupation."

I am reminded of a German colleague's remarks a couple of weeks ago. After WWII ended, he said, it was a kind of occupation of Germany for five years, but then we became friends.

Why doesn't anybody ever mention that we could be ou of there if these people would shut up and start pulling in the right direction? And that it's not that people MAY die from their comments, but that they're killing people every day with their poisonous, hateful words.

"Where is the Form 180 you promised us Kerry you POS?"

Didn't you hear? From the "truth is stranger than fiction" dept. He said a few months ago that he DID sign the 180. But he just hasn't sent it back in yet.

I guess actually sending it back in wasn't part of the deal that Crissy Mathews talked him into.

as a part of a larger strategy from the central committee.

Or Commissariat, if you please.

Murtha might aspire to the position of Commissar of Peaceable Surrender.

My estimate of Murtha is that he has been weighed in the balance and found wanting, Nam service or no Nam service.

"Just what is Murtha's pedigree? I'd like to see an accurate listing of his duty in the military."
________

The word I've heard is that he was a dirt Marine sergeant in 'Nam, got a commission in the Reserves and retired at O-6.

Enlisted types don't usually write themselves up for medals, and that goes double for the Corps. If he got Purple Hearts as a Marine, he damn well earned them.

All that being said, I know at least one retired Gunny who would like to stake Murtha out over an anthill for a week or so while he thought up something REALLY unpleasant to do.

Love it when a lefty whines about the "occupation" of Iraq. "The occupation ended a year ago Summer" you reply. Inevitably the lefty says something like, "says who?". "Well, the UNITED NATIONS and the ARAB LEAGUE for instance," you reply.

Amazing. Even back then (the immediate postwar period) the leftist journalists and academia types tended to side with America's enemies. At least then they had the courtesy of subtly admitting what they were doing: "I'm not sticking up for the Germans, but..."

US troops may be the target but unarmed and exposed civilians are much easier to kill.

If he served honorably, then he is to be commended. For that.

But it's not a free pass to say or do anything for the rest of one's life.

Every time someone mentions the media and the military in our country since Viet Nam, I have two observations:

Someday, someone is going to finally figure out if we took more casualties in Viet Nam because of the actions of our own news media than those of the NVA, Viet Cong, Russia and the ChiComs combined.

In that same vein, has anyone ever thought about the extravagant measures taken to isolate the media from military units during the First GW? Just consider that most of the upper level enlisted types had first enlisted in the late 60’s or early 70’s, combine that with my bad attitude (you can figure out if it’s typical or not), add a bunch of live rounds and estimate the life expectancy of a reporter in milliseconds for me.

No where is it written that a former Marine can't go totally insane.

100,000 troops in a country of 25 million is an occupying force?

How many do we still have in Kosovo?

How can we be an occupying force if we are asked to stay by a freely elected representative government?

Murtha and George Galloway -- joined at the hip.

"No where is it written that a former Marine can't go totally insane."

True enough....

Also not written, is the number that retreated into the blackest corners of their minds, because America believed Kerry/Fonda/Media, and believed their sacrifice and their lost brothers were "wasted blood" -- since the world now regarded them as baby killers, rapists and a nation ravaging hord in the mold of Genghis Khan....

There are men alive today, STILL gravely wounded in their minds and hearts as a DIRECT RESULT of Kerry's treachery and traitorous behavior...
More than most folks could possibly imagine......

THEIR very real and permanent wounds were never recognized or written up for a PH....and they were far more real and devastating than the phony "wounds" that Kerry wrote himself up to receive 3 PHs and thus "earn" his way out of Vietnam in 4 months -- opposed to the normal 13 month tour for the Corps..

Semper Fi

True, we are not occupying Iraq in order to hold it as a possession. Just to maintain order until their government is secure.
