Racially Charged Rally Awakens Sleepy KingstonInternet Staple Turner Speaks Out Again Black-On-White Violence
(CBS) KINGSTON, N.Y. Out-of-state Internet talk show host Hal Turner organized a racially charged rally in this quiet upstate town on Saturday, angering many residents and pleasing a few others.
"It's disgusting," resident Mary Mauro said. "This is a quiet town, nobody bothers with anybody and for someone to bring something like this up here ... unbelievable."
Turner said the rally was in protest of two recent incidents of black-on-white crime at Kingston High School, and what his supporters say is a bias in the prosecution of hate crimes.
"Prosecute hate criminals across the board, white or black, and don't selectively enforce the law," Paul Gellar said.
But many from this town, roughly sixty miles south of Albany, say race relations here are fine, and are angered that Turner and his supporters brought what they say is a message of hate to Kingston.
"To take it to this extreme, this is a town where a lot of the families are multi-racial," resident Joe Waterman said. "From what I know of this town, it's come a long way, you don't see a lot of black and white hate, and you see black dudes hanging with white dudes."
Kingston Mayor Joe Sottile said he took a cue from recent riots that broke out in Toledo, Ohio, after a similar rally, and didn't taking any chances as was evident by how police easily outnumbered the protesters.
"No question today is going to cost the taxpayers some money at a time when we are trying to re-build the city's infrastructure, but you know what safety of our community, of our residents, safety is of utmost importance," Sottile said.
For his part, Turner said the rally went about as he expected.
"I think the rally went fine, the 50 or 60 people that I expected showed up, crowd control was excellent," Turner said. "I don't think anybody could accuse this of being any kind of hate or white supremacist rally."
But that's what many here called it.
The rally lasted less than 90 minutes. The protesters, both pro and con, dispersed peacefully, and police said there were no arrests

yeah yeah it's only hate when it's white on black, not black on white.
I have never even heard of Hal Turner but he sounds like a troublemaker to me.
He sure is.
Jim Rob kicked him off the FR.
Not surprised at that---I wouldn't want him around.
Anyone who calls a spade a spade is alright in my book. If you can't stand the truth stay in the pigpen and just slop around with the rest of the liberals and their rhetoric.
Hal Turner is also a Holocaust denier, rabid white supremacist, and a bisexual "Cruiser" to boot.
Kinda like that Martin Luther King guy.
Sounds like a prime demorat supporter or office holder.
Then the fund raising, and really wacko callers would just push it over the edge. He can be very well spoken when
he wants to be.
You got it Marine. PC rule number one: no such thing as a hate crime when a white person is the victim.
You got it Marine. PC rule number one: no such thing as a hate crime when a straight, christian white person is the victim.
The comparison wasn't about the message. It's about one's right to deliver a message.
Farrakhan, the new black panthers and others deliver the same message from the opposite end of the color chart.
It's my opinion that many whites secretly root for the black separatist movement because it would accomplish the same goal as the white separatist movement without the stigma of racism attached, because, it's an established fact that racism is much more evil when practiced by whites than by any other race.
BTW, nothing is 'over the top' when done in the true spirit of debate. If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen.
