The Iraq War is Not Another Vietnam - Part II(Excellent piece by Richard Miniter)

This Time the Gloves are Off

In the 1960s, the U.S. was constrained by two great powers, the Soviet Union and Communist China. Any move to invade North Vietnam or dramatically escalate the conflict risked provoking the ire of the Soviets. The nightmare scenario: a tidal wave of Chinese army regulars flooding across the border, as they did in Korea.

Today, the U.S. is the world’s sole surviving superpower. The best outside help that Iraqi insurgents can count on comes from Iran and Syria. To date, Iran and Syria can offer only the car bomb, not the A-bomb. And now it is Iran and Syria who dare not escalate too quickly—lest they incite America’s retaliation.

The Big Battles are Over The duration of major combat operations—defined as combined air and ground operations involving thousands of troops—is another striking difference between Vietnam and Iraq. The Vietnam War lasted fourteen years, more than eight of which were consumed by intense combat against an organized foe. By contrast, U.S. forces smashed the Iraqi army in less than three weeks in 2003.

Indeed, the movement seems to exist as a nostalgia vehicle for some and a dating service for others.

,,yes indeed - I remember debating the war against a young, cleancut small business owner and I kept wondering what could have driven him over to the hippie-fringe...until I met his hot, Canadian, ultra-liberal girlfriend.

While tariffs are now 5 percent, that still represents a huge reduction from the Saddam era, when import taxes were 75 percent on air conditioners and 30 percent on televisions. As a result, prices for consumer goods have plummeted while profits to small businesses have soared. The economy is booming, between the bomb blasts.
This is what the leftists hate most about the war in Iraq. They hate it when any free market exists anywhere, but they especially hate it when a new free market springs up where there was not one before.

The managing director of Dar al-Salaam Insurance Company reports that his firm’s portfolio of shares on the exchange have grown to 3 billion Iraqi dinars (worth roughly $2 billion) from a mere 200 million dinars in 2003.31 “I believe this will be temporary, the looting and the terrorism. If this belief is not correct, Iraq will be ruined,” he told the Financial Times. “We were buying and selling and there were bombs around, shooting and fighting but nobody got scared, they just continued buying and selling. You do not do this unless there is faith” in the future.
This is what the leftists in the US Senate want to put an end to. This is what those stinking traitor anti-American scumbag leftists in the United States Senate want to put the breaks on. They hate it when any policy of George W Bush results in better lives for people anywhere. And they will sabotage those people, sabotage those lives, sabotage the American military and sabotage our country, all in an effort to prevent any policy of George W Bush from resulting in a better life for any people anywhere.

I have to disagree, our liberals via their media appendages cannot be discounted, this is about OIL and who will control the flow of it.

We got SOROS buying off RHINO's to keep ANWAR sealed, which make me wonder if there is not a whole lot more oil up there than most of us are told. Seems to me since it is going to take a few years to ever get it out of the ground it will have little impact for a few years.

Putin is to host the next G-8 Summit and he had declared it will be about "energy security", meanwhile he is selling weapons to the humanitarian pretender Chavez. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1525533/posts

These liberals have been screaming it is about OIL from day one and appears they were correct, will they control it or will a "free" civilized society be in control.

And when it came, the voluntary army looked more like America. National Journal noted in May 2004 that the U.S. population was 69 percent white, 12 percent black, and 11 percent Hispanic. Deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan were 71 percent white, 12 percent black, and 11 percent Hispanic. (The balance was Pacific Islanders, Native Americans, foreigners who volunteered, and others.) Unlike Vietnam, it is hard to argue that some racial groups are suffering casualties disproportionately.

It is a myth that blacks suffered disproportional to whites in Vietnam. As the table below shows, 12.4% of deaths in Vietnam were black and 86.1% were white. Compared to the ratio of black/whites in the population, whites died at a rate higher than blacks.

For the liberal-left of this country and around the world, it must be disappointing to the extreme, that no industrial powers comparable to the former Soviet Union, has yet emerged to counter the US. The Islamic jihadists certainly have the motivation to express great prejudice against the US, but they have at best only a marginal industrialization of their countries, and so far, insufficient technology of their own to deliver a really crippling blow.

So they seem to be bent on capturing, by stealth if possible, but by naked application of terroristic methods if necessary, the industrial capability of most of the European mainland. France may be decrepit and moribund, but they have steel mills, nuclear generation facilities, and some degree of manufacturing capability, and if that country can be turned to working for Islamic jihadist purposes, there may be a credible direct threat to the Great Satan. After all, Adolf Hitler had far less to work with in the 1930's when he achieved power in Germany, and he carried that limited capability almost to the point of winning the upper hand for a time, except he made the mistake of fighting a two-front war before he could afford to. The West would have crumbled. Stalin would have helped him do that. Then he could have picked his fight with Stalin. Hitler and Stalin WERE allies, you know, for a short while. Joachim von Ribbentrop negotiated the Nazi-Soviet Pact signed on August 23, 1939, by which Germany and Soviet Russia agreed to a joint attack upon and partition of Poland. The Germans just broke the treaty too soon.

What we are seeing with the current situation with the Islamic jihadists and the liberal-left of this country and elsewhere, is a de facto alliance to bring down the US.

Islamic jihadists are truly the intellectual heirs of Nazi Germany, and like Adolf Hitler before them, are perfectly willing to use the sympathies of the liberal-left if it should further their objectives. Then in the penultimate act of treachery, they would slaughter these same liberal-left, just before they placed the entire world under dhimmi, the enforced servitude of non-Muslims living under Islamic shar'ia law.

The military situation in Iraq is very different from that in Vietnam. But we could have won in Vietnam just as surely as we could win in Iraq. The current homeland political situation is very similar to the one that caused us to lose in Vietnam, and the enemy (Iran and China) know it. The plan to defeat America is not new. It was formulated many years ago by the Red Chinese and the Soviet Union. The faces of some of the enemy may have changed, but the plan has not changed. Soviet Premier Nikita Kruschev told us very clearly that our country would be overthrown without firing a shot. The plan was to invade our academia and our media. Once they controlled that, then they would control our minds. Then they could change our values, culture and eventually they could control our politics such that the country would crumble from within like a termite infested building. It has taken a long time, but the plan is working perfectly.

We lost in Vietnam because a hostile media marching to the tune of the 1960's radicalism as exemplified by the anti war (some down right traitorous) activities of Jane Fonda, Tom Hayden, Bill & Hillary Clinton and John Kerry. The mightiest country in the history of the Earth crumbled before peasants like a termite infested house. The plan to defeat America worked flawlessly.

The Chinese are encircling us with footholds in former American military bases in Panama, and soon Venezuela and Cuba. They are economically eroding our military and industrial power by overtaking our production capacity and skilled labor force. They are funding terrorist organizations which bleeds off out military equipment stores.

Iraq is but a small pawn in the plan to defeat America, but it may be the pivotal one. According to the plan, an American loss in Iraq will embolden out enemies and cower our friends. Islamist forces would surge through Europe (and Canada) like grease through a goose. A decadent, culture less, valueless and godless America willing to fight for nothing (ala Canada) would soon crumble before coordinated evil of the the newest generation of world tyrants.

The pivots battle is now being waged in America. The traditional media is following the Vietnam script, the Democratic party captured by the 1960's radicals is following their familiar antiwar scripts of "America is evil" and "make love, not war." Even the Republicans are true to script. They want to make war and cut taxes, sending the clearest of signals that their priority is to grab the money, and "proves" to the masses that the Democrats are right about the "Party of the Rich."

There is one big wild care which will impact the plan. Americans are becoming frustrated, angry and looking for a change. Many Democrats and Republicans want different choices. They are tired of the money syndicates channeling outside money into local elections producing politicians loyal to the syndicate that funds them rather than to the people who elect them. This system has subverted our election process, it has brought a whole new ring to the term "judge shopping." Americans have become cynical, angry and are ready for change.

I'm reading a book (printed in the 1800's) regarding the civil war. Sad to say, the democrats were against the Republican president Lincoln winning that war too. That was BEFORE it became a COMMUNIST organization.

The title of the book is Campgrounds and Battlefields.

I think the democratic party became communist when they nominated Roosevelt, (Franklin) and has just become more radical in the last few years.

The major difference between Iraq and colonial rebellions is the terrorists are not directly engaging our troops. Instead, they're busy slaughtering Iraqi civilians. Both the Ba'athist dead-enders and the Islamofascist goons have no interest in building a sea of popular support in which they can thrive. It seems their aim is to spread terror and destruction for its own sake. So its very different from what the U.S encountered in Vietnam in the 60s. To put not too fine a point on it, Iraq is NOT Vietnam.
