Does recent history indicate that most of these sites will require extensive clean-up? I don't think that was a big issue when they closed the Ford plant in Edison, NJ a few years ago.

I'm saddened that any UAW losses will be made up in spades by the government workers' unions.

Bush's Fault.. Even though GM had problems way before Bush was in office.

Fine, then: Clinton's fault. 8^

You know, you'd think these cheese meats would begin to understand the problems with demanding higher and higher wages and benefits.

It defies logic, but so does the Democrat party and their still around.

Union folks need to, at some point, realize, it is to your own peril to steal a company from it's owner. Say it with me...Iamtheemployee nottheowner....Iamtheemployee nottheowner....

Guess there are some greedy people who are going to get a good dose of poor.

When GM closed the Tarrytown NY plant...the environmental bugdet was several hundred mill...some of these palnts have been on the same site for 70-80 years.back then they just dumped the waste outside..then as the plants expanded, they poured concrete over it..but soil underneath is contaminated 10-20 feet down...

"we are cutting out BUICK.."

In Florida, we give wide berth to any and all Buicks. Guaranteed to be driven by very old folks with bad eyesight and slow reflexes.

UAW would rather have half the employees but with the same, over-inflated pay and benefits, rather than keep everyone working and lose a single dime in benefits or pay. THe union sees any loss of pay or benefits as a defeat and an insult to those hard-won labor agreements. It's pride over practicallity.

GM offers too many types of cars. They need to scale back and increase quality. They are still better than Ford but cannot touch Honda or Toyota.

I bought 2 Honda's this year and sold my old Honda that had over 250K miles for a great price. I expect to run these two until the wheels fall off.

I do drive a Chevy Silverado ;) Can't bring myself to buy a foreign truck...

I bet you the execs will still take home their million dollar bonuses! Man is so sinful. He will cut 1,000 jobs for men who will no longer be able to feed their families, but keep the ONE job of the executive who makes the equivalent of those 1,000 men's salaries so he can maintain his 12K a year country club membership, pay $500.00 for dinners out with his wife and two children and all sorts of materialistic and gluttonous activities. I know why God says it is easier for a camel to pass through an eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into heaven.

I see. I'm wondering if the location of that site on the Hudson River made it particularly sensitive from an environmental standpoint.

Now that I think about it, I don't remember any serious environmental concerns when they built that Sharp headquarters on the site of the old Ford plant in Mahwah, NJ.

I smell a new Michael Moore movie in the works: "Rick and Me."

Please don't ever use the word "smell" in a sentence mentioning Myk Al-Moor!

It has come full circle. Auto unions were the birth of health insurance - it was a means to provide a "benefit" that was not an actual pay raise. Of course, back then, health care was not so expensive. In fact, everyone paid as they went, or if a bill was high, made payments.

The presence of health insurance changed all that. When the "patient" perceived that they were not paying for their health care out of their own pocketbook, costs began their astronomic upward trend. Demand increased dramatically, and when prices zoomed upward, no one complained, no one comparison shopped, and everything just went out of control.

We would be so much better off if the concept of "health insurance" had never surfaced in this world.
