The Badlands of Al Anbar
National Review Online ^ | November 21, 2005 | W. Thomas Smith, Jr.

Insurgencies are not put down in a fortnight. But considering the successes in the recent counter-insurgency sweep in Iraq's Al Anbar Province, one fact becomes obvious to anyone with so much as a sliver of an understanding of ground combat operations: Eliminating the insurgency in Iraq is best left to those who best know how to do it.

We're winning in Al Anbar - taming the rough badlands populated by Al Qaeda brigands. The MSM is making sure this good news doesn't reach the American people.

Excellent article. I think we have spent a lot of time and effort trying to understand terrorists and not much on the Iraqis. There are probably many Americans who do not understand how debilitating living in a tyrannical police state is. Hence, "That's due to the fact that they've been beaten down for years. If anybody was seen as displaying initiative in the past, they were usually done away with."

We went over there knowing absolutely nothing about the country, the culture or the people and in less than 3 years look at what has been accomplished. The American people would be proud, if they only knew about it.

I suggest that we start putting CUTANDRUN in the bookmarks when we see the term used in articles or we see those actions called for by cowards.

Recently, I have been seeing the term a lot.

The Iraqis live under the threat of being murdered on a daily basis. Of course, that was life under Hussein.

But now they can, and are, making choices for a better future. Even under threats of vengeance, they cast a higher voting percentage than the American public. Some people (traitors) still call Iraq a lost cause.

It seems that the traitors would rather be fighting on our soil, rather than Iraq. Our soldiers are fighting and building infrastructure and friendships at the same time.

After living through the Clinton years, this is an amazing time.
