This may not win Hispanic votes today but, at some point the immigrates become American. This is when the Hispanics will what the wall built. Remember Mexico has there own immigration problem. Good fences make good neighbors. If you don't believe that to be true, turn your house into a homeless shelter.

Kudos to Tancredo who voices the position of the average American on this issue, a position they will not hear voiced by Bush, Frist, Hastert, etc., etc.
I will not support a candidate who will not pledge to close the border.

It's not impossible. According to this article, Tancredo has a lot of support in Iowa. If he can win the caucus there he's going to get more serious money to keep going. And if he can score a win in the New Hamshire primary, he's a much more serious candidate. Don't forget that California moves their primary up to March in the next election. There are many people here sick of the illegal thing. If he can win that one, he's already got a lot of delegates. It's going to be interesting.

immigration and illegal immigration are not synonymous

With 82% of the population supporting immigration law enforcement, Tancredo could very well win.
This author, among other things, is terrified of that possibility, and uses a "Preemptive Strike" of bashing the reader over the head with "NO, NO, NO, it's not real,it's not real, he doesn't really want to win, he doesn't really want to win"
The author is hoping the conversation starts at that point, rather than at the point where many people are talking about this candidate.

I can't stand that flip-floppin' rino McCain. And Rudy is pro-death. I will vote for whomever Tancredo embarrasses into strong stances against open borders and illegal migrants or for Tom himself if he runs. I'm so done with this weak kneed policy on both sides of the platform that I could just spit.

American Conservative Union's rating for Tom Tancredo = 100
American Conservative Union's rating for John McCain = 72
Tancredo in '08!

"While the Colorado congressman's message might win votes as a hot-button issue in 2008 and 2012, Mr. McIntyre said, demographic trends suggested the position might prove electoral poison in 2016 and beyond as the American electorate becomes increasingly Hispanic, and if the Tancredo platform paints national Republicans as "anti-immigrant."
This is why we needed to do something about illegal immigration yesterday. The anchor babies the Hispanics have been having will be eligible to vote.
"For Republicans to succeed in quieting Mr. Tancredo, satisfying the base's yearning for a serious immigration policy, and to avoid being tarred as nativist, it would be necessary for the GOP to nominate a popular candidate with a reputation for being a moderate-such as Senator McCain, of Arizona, or Mayor Giuliani - who would then embrace the issue in the 2008 campaign."
I want someone who's a nativist. All other countries can be nativist and should be.

he might be waiting to see how Gilchrist is going to do.

Tancredo Plots Anti-Immigration 2008 CampaignCatchy title. Completely false, but catchy.

Whoever wins in '08 will have bigger things to deal with than immigration. It's big, but nuclear war is bigger.

How illogical. This seems to say that successfully reducing Hispanic immigration now might be a political winner in 08 and 12 but you'd pay for in 16 as the electorate becomes increasingly Hispanic but you actually made the electorate less Hispanic if you succeeded in 2008 and 2012.
