BOSTON - Sen. John Kerry's public profile and prosecutorial past didn't spare him from performing that most mundane of civic responsibilities jury duty.
Kerry was not only chosen this week to sit on a jury in Suffolk Superior Court, but also was elected foreman.
The case involved two men who sued the city for injuries suffered in a 2000 car accident involving a school principal. The Kerry-led jury rejected their claim Tuesday, and his fellow jurors said the state's junior senator was a natural leader.
"I just found him to be a knowledgeable, normal person," said Cynthia Lovell, a nurse and registered Republican who says she now regrets voting for President Bush in last year's election. "He kept us focused. He wanted us all to have our own say."
The former Democratic presidential candidate reported for duty Monday and none of the lawyers in the case objected to putting him on the jury.
"I was a little surprised," Kerry said of being selected for jury duty.
"I enjoyed it," he said. "It was very, very interesting and very instructive."
Massachussetts political stunt -- John Kerry is a former prosecutor in Suffolk County, he knows the prosecutors and judges there. They got him on this jury and they put him in with a "registered Republican who says she regrets having voted for Bush".
"DON'T YOU KNOW WHO I AM!?"
With Kerry on the jury, it might as well be a one-man jury.
I'm sure John F'n said he had seen a similar case when he was in Cambodia.
I think he was in Vietnam...
Good Lord, I would have objected. How could I possibly have thought the other members would have acted independently of alQuerry? With stature such as his, his implied opinions would have lead the jury.
Leni
Well...it apparently drove one Republican nurse insane.
If Kerry had lost, she would not have had this wonderful opportunity.
I meant, "If Kerry had won..."
Knowledgeable???
With legal training, of course he was knowledgeable.
He obtained that training after he served in Vietnam for his 90 day tour.
LOL.I actually heard that guy or one similar the other day call in to C-Span!
Figured that...
:-)
LOL!
"I'm normally a straight ticket Republican, but this year I'm voting for Mondale/Dukakis/Clinton/Gore/Kerry!"
They failed to report that Kerry couldn't make up his mind which way to vote.
When was the last time this guy actually showed up for work. Maybe we should institute the same penalties for absenteism from the senate as we do for avoiding jury duty. Then on the other hand, maybe it's better that this guy is missing in action.
Boy, that extra Kerry vote in MA really would have put him over the top!
16 hours later John Kerry was still trying to explain his "guilty but not guilty" verdict!
The fool hasn't even come to a decision on the Cape Cod wind-turbines... it's been a couple years now and he says he still needs more information.
I don't pity his fellow jurors though. They voted for this POS... year after year... after year....
