Passenger Urinates In Aisle, Diverts Orlando Flight
Local 6 News and AP ^ | November 26, 2005

Posted on 11/26/2005 6:56:20 PM PST by B Knotts

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- An intoxicated passenger who lit a cigarette and urinated in the aisle led pilots to divert a United Airlines flight from Orlando to Washington, D.C., an airline spokeswoman said.

The man, whose name the airline declined to release, was taken off flight 1502 in Charlotte and questioned by police, spokeswoman Robin Urbanski said.

The man was "acting extremely inappropriately," Urbanski said. "When you want to run a safe airline, we don't tolerate that type of activity on our aircraft."

A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police watch commander referred questions about an in-flight incident to the FBI in Charlotte, which did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

What the heck? Did they really have to divert the flight for this @ss hat's sake? Im pretty sure enlisting the help of a few burly passengers could have quelled this guy. And how the heck did he light a cigarette? They confiscate lighters at airports these days!!!

Channell #5 gives me an intense urge every single time. It must be banned as soon as possible to keep the planes flying.

If I recall correctly, you are still allowed to carry two matchbooks (but can't have any 'strike-anywhere' matches).

Perhaps they should serve no more than one alchoholic drink to a passenger, if any.

Even if they're not releasing the passenger's name, I'm sure they're passing it around the airline community. It will be hard for this fellow to get on a plane for some time to come.

There was a wealthy banker from Connecticut a few years ago who got drunk and was refused alcohol service.

He retaliated by defecating on the food service cart (I am not making this up).

Gross.

"acting extremely inappropriately,".

Actually, on a lot of the flights I've been on lately, this would have been rather appropriate behavior! How I hate flying these days.

I have flown quite a bit since this no lighter rule went into effect and have noticed that virtually every lighter makes it through too.

The only way it doesn't is if you get pulled aside for the "special" checks and searched. If they physically pluck one out of your bag they take it.

As it was put in yet another report: "and then [the perp] stopped violating, but only because he had finished, and not due to any understanding..." How on earth would the burly passengers [in any number] quell his urination? The only way would be with a loop of a thin but strong wire or string, and such a specialized equipment was in all probability not available.

Guess you don't travel. I been travelling with a lighter in my pocket for the last 40 years?

The magnetron does not pick it up. There is less metal in the cap and striker than in some people's fillings! Got it?
