Murtha Says Army Is Broken

"War hero" Congressman John "Benedict" Murtha takes time from basking in war hero status given by the MSM to blast the Army and its work.

LATROBE, Pa. - Most U.S. troops will leave Iraq within a year because the Army is "broken, worn out" and "living hand to mouth," Rep. John Murtha told a civic group.

Two weeks ago, Murtha created a storm of comment when he called for U.S. troops to leave Iraq now. The Democratic congressman spoke to a group of community and business leaders in Latrobe on Wednesday, the same day President Bush said troops would be withdrawn when they've achieved victory, not under an artificial deadline set by politicians.

Murtha predicted most troops will be out of Iraq within a year.

"I predict he'll make it look like we're staying the course," Murtha said, referring to Bush. "Staying the course is not a policy."

Murtha, 73, the ranking Democrat on the House Appropriations defense subcommittee, expressed pessimism about Iraq's stability and said the Iraqis know who the insurgents are, but don't always share that information with U.S. troops. He said a civil war is likely because of ongoing factionalism among Sunni Arabs, and Kurds and Shiites.

He also said he was wrong to vote to support the war.

"I admit I made a mistake when I voted for war," Murtha said. "I'm looking at the future of the United States military."

Murtha, a decorated Vietnam war veteran, said the Pennsylvania National Guard is "stretched so thin" that it won't be able to send fully equipped units to Iraq next year. Murtha predicted it will cost $50 billion to upgrade military equipment nationwide, but says the federal government is already reducing future purchases to save money.

Murtha, who represents a western Pennsylvania district that includes Latrobe, was first elected to Congress in 1974.

Lt. Col. Chris Cleaver, spokesman for the Pennsylvania National Guard at Fort Indiantown Gap, said "there are some deployment concerns."

Cleaver said some guard units had to leave equipment in Iraq when they returned to the United States, which could cause training problems here.

But Cleaver also said most of the 2,100 Guard troops now deployed with the 2nd Brigade Combat Team can't be sent back to Iraq for a second tour of duty anyway, because of regulations that limit redeployment.

Just like Cindy Mediawhore Sheehan, Murtha has to continue getting more and more extreme and shrill to attract attention. How long before the media finshes with him and he sits alone waiting for what he thought would be adoring crowds? Not long.

Two points:

1) When is he up for election?

2) How much is the DNC giving to his campaign?

Most of the politicians sell their souls for campaign cash. I wouldn't put it past this guy. If you find out what the DNC promised him, you find out why he is representing this talking point.

There's about 25,000 terrorists and 1.8 million virgins in paradise that see things differently.

I read somewhere we would leave all (most) of the wheeled equipment in Iraq because it is reaching end of life.

This is just another example of the Dems realizing success is nigh and they are pre-writing their anti-american conclusion.

The comment about the Guard unit being short of equipment seems to be taken out of context. We're leaving some of our equipment behind to help arm the Iraqis. It's part of our plan to stand up their armed forces. The way this is written leaves open the possibility in the readers mind that the equipment has simply been abandoned.

John Murtha better avoid hanging around with any Marines because most disagree with his opinion.

"Opinions are like hemorrhoids, every ass**le has one"

"I don't know Murtha. To the best of my knowledge our paths never crossed which is a small miracle given the clubby nature of Old Marines like me. But I will say this, given that he was a Vietnam Marine if he really said the things that are attributed to him the difference between him and Benedict Arnold is that Arnold at least had re! ! asons to turn traitor. Murtha must know the effect comments like his would have on the terrorists and our guys. And he did it anyway for some marginal attention and gain.

He's a terrorist ally.

This guy kills me...As a congressman he voted on appropriations to ensure the military could fight a two theatre war. He was there during the 90's when the defense budgets were cut to smithereens. To have this equipment NOW...the funding needed to be in place back then.

Seems to me his mistake was allowing the defense budgets to be cut so deeply...not to mention the $Millions he peeled off for pork projects in his district.

The theory on Murtha is that he's using this issue to get out in front of some ethics violation charges pending on him. Although the investigation has been ongoing for some time he'll use his stand on the war as cover when the charges are brought. He'll say the charges are politically motivated to silence his antiwar comments. If it's true his strategy is at the same time pretty slick and extremely cynical.

Congress is also "broken, worn out" and living lavishly at the expenses of overburnened taxpayers.

It's time that all representatives and senators are recalled from duty and sent home to rest.

What is going on in this state. I got the impression that the PA unit heading through here had a moral problem when they returned home.

This old man needs to find a good geriatric specialist.

I have noticed that he has been drooling on camera and tends to slur a bit.

Time to hang it up and check into assisted living. Those inmates will listen to what you have to babble about.

Benedict Arnold was a real war hero (Murtha served, but not heroically).
Benedict Arnold ended up trying to help the Other Side.
Murtha is absolutely helping the Other Side.
Everyone today considers Benedict Arnold a traitor. Even the British disliked him.

Murtha may have been a patriot. But he's a Traitor now. It's a mistake to say "He served. He's good. He's a patriot. Blah, blah, blah".

He's a traitor.

Murtha is under investigation for ethics violations. The dims are keeping it as quiet as possible. They are trying to build this turn-coat up so that the public will not support any prosecution of his highness.

This info came directly from Colonel Oliver North, on Sean's show yesterday.

Dude, you hit the nail on the head. He has been very vocal since, as reported, he is under investigation that he steered business to HIS BROTHER'S LOBBYING FIRM - KSA - and helped Pelosi get a big project for her district which DIRECTLY BENEFITTED A RELATIVE OF HERS.

I note that he was one of the politicians who took money from MZM, same as Cunningham. Perhaps that has something to do with it.
