First, many modern liberals arent liberal at all today. Instead of seeking to expand personal freedom and liberty like the liberals of old, they seek to remove freedoms and liberties from others to support their federal dependency. There aint nothin American about that!
Just so you dont miss the point, lets keep it simple and straight forward. People from other countries who hate American principles are called anti-American. People from America who hate those same American principles are called un-American. Too simple?
Oh I know - its politically incorrect to use the term un-American when referring to people who call themselves American.

They can be as unamerican as they want. No one has to elect them to office, or tolerate treason when the Unamericanism evolves to treason, as it is doing in many cases, like Joe Wilson, and lately Murtha.
I'm an American by birth, not by creed. I have made no profession of faith in any American principles, and neither has most everyone else. A "Proposition Nation" is downright Jacobin.
"un-American" seems to fit you then.
Too many who reside in America do so for the purpose of benefiting from the ideals that made America the most desired residence on earth, without in any way contributing to the nation they seek to suck dry. They often even work to kill the goose that laid the golden egg they have enjoyed.
I think you have identified yourself as one of those the author was describing. American in address alone. A parasite consuming the fruits of others works and sacrifices without contributing anything in return...
Not sure you should be so proud...
If John Murtha had a Medal of Honor or even a Silver Star I might concider him a hero, but the Bronze Star and Vietnamese medal were handed out like M & Ms.
Most officers who went to Vietnam came home with them, if they served in any kind of combat unit. Like most of us, of that era, he did his duty.
Nothing more and nothing less.
As far as his military expertise, I am not impressed with anyone who spent 37 years in the Marine Corps and retired a Lt. Col.
I am more comfortable with the three and four star generals running the show.

I second that!
Ready for number two? Retroactively to 11 September 2001, whensoever any American appears on national or local television, radio, newspaper, or other medium, including those employed in the press and media, and declares, states, implies, or insinuates that America should surrender to the terrorists, prosecute and convict of sedition and sentence to five to ten years at hard labor. We certainly should not prosecute for mere misspeaking, so we'll be nice and require several separate but similar statements revealing a true belief or position of the day. Develop a zero-tolerance policy for overt public sedition.
Ready...
I knew there was something I liked about ole honest Abe...
And calling anyone who disagrees with you 'unamerican' cheapens that term as well. Unlike Mr. Williams I spent the better part of my adult life wearing the uniform of this country's military. I was defending the rights of those people Mr. Williams is attacking. Those rights include holding beliefs and opinions different from mine. They may disagree with the war, they may dislike the President, they may openly question the motivations of the administration, it is their right as American to do so. It is one of the things that makes this country different from most of the other countries in the world and is one of our greatest strengths. And I hope we never lose it, never reach the point where people are afraid to disagree with their goverment for fear of being labled 'unamerican' by the likes of Mr. Williams.
Who says I'm proud? I just already have a religion, and I hate treating my country as if she were a church. Anti-Americans tend to have silly foreign countries they'd like us to copy, like Sweden. I'm just a nutty localist who considers himself a Coloradoan and a Westerner before he considers himself an American. I'm content to love the land I was born in, and reject the stupid ideologies layered over her and the stupid ideologues who demand I have to pour libations to their petty idols before I can claim "true Americanity."
I live in the shadow of America's purple mountain majesties, and I love them dearly. Ideas don't have form or color, and sure ain't worth living or dying for. The land and her people, however, are sure worth losing your head for. Those who claim Americanism to be their creed are just like the French they so often claim to despise, all abstraction and no particularity. It's like they're all hat and no cattle.
There's a lot of things to like about Abraham Lincoln, but that quote isn't one of them. I don't believe he ever said it. A search of the online sites that contain his speeches and writings has not turned up anything resembling that quote.

This is the source of the photo and the quote...

Of course, they could be wrong.
I am the messenger, not the source.
Hopefully, I did not forward a false quote. I apologize, in advance, if I did.
It's impossible for Abraham Lincoln to have said that quote. Merriam-Webster's Ninth Collegiate dictionary says that the word "saboteur" was first used in 1921 and did not exist before that.
Thank you for your research and information.
I will not forward this quote in the future and I apologize for the mistake.
Hopefully that website will correct their information so that others do not also get confused.
Sorry you've been lied to your entire life. The ideas discussed by Williams are not Mr. Williams ideas. He is right in saying they are some of the key founding ideas of America, responsible for America's success, and the lifestyle every American enjoys today. Anyone who knows history knows this.
Mr. Williams said nothing about supporting or not supporting Bush. He gave some pretty good examples of behavior that would have been grounds for public lynching not so long ago. They'd be grounds today if it were a Republican who did it.
He seems to suggest that living in America while attacking everything American is akin to belonging to a church, sitting in the pew every Sunday, but speaking out against and undermining that church all week long. Not hard to assume by these actions that one is anti-church...
If you wore a military uniform to pay for the right of people to destroy this country, you are a fool. Well founded honest dissent is not what anyone including Mr. Williams seems to take issue with.
Relentless attacks on all things (ideals) fundamentally American is another story.
Sorry you fail to understand the substantial difference.
Sorry you think you fought to defend the destruction of American principles...
"Ideas don't have form or color, and sure ain't worth living or dying for."
Freedom is just an idea... So is personal liberty, self-governance and self-determination. Many died to secure these ideas, many more to protect and defend them.
America is the name chosen for the land born and built upon these ideas. Love it or leave it...
