Who says I'm proud? I just already have a religion, and I hate treating my country as if she were a church. Anti-Americans tend to have silly foreign countries they'd like us to copy, like Sweden. I'm just a nutty localist who considers himself a Coloradoan and a Westerner before he considers himself an American. I'm content to love the land I was born in, and reject the stupid ideologies layered over her and the stupid ideologues who demand I have to pour libations to their petty idols before I can claim "true Americanity."
I live in the shadow of America's purple mountain majesties, and I love them dearly. Ideas don't have form or color, and sure ain't worth living or dying for. The land and her people, however, are sure worth losing your head for. Those who claim Americanism to be their creed are just like the French they so often claim to despise, all abstraction and no particularity. It's like they're all hat and no cattle.
"Ideas don't have form or color, and sure ain't worth living or dying for."
Freedom is just an idea... So is personal liberty, self-governance and self-determination. Many died to secure these ideas, many more to protect and defend them.
America is the name chosen for the land born and built upon these ideas. Love it or leave it...
