Julian is so obtuse…

Defending Gov Blanco…because she asked for help the “day before” the storm hit…

Well how convenient, dump the massive problem 24 hrs before….disaster, so you can have clean hands… I think NOT!

Did he read the e-mail verbatim? And how does he know it was actually sent?

24 hours before does nothing. It takes time for FEMA to stage and FEMA will not send people nor resources into an area where a disaster is expected to hit beforehand because they will not endanger the lives of their workers nor risk the loss of the resources.

Contrary to the opinion of many Americans, the federal government is not able to be at your doorstep with meals and supplies for your survival and comfort at the drop of a hat.

Blanco's staff released it...to prove they requested busses..... They had busses for goodness sakes... It doesn't take a mental giant such as Julian....to put 2 and 2 together...

A simple question by the news reader like, "why did she request busses when she had plenty? Why was there no food at the Super Dome? Why did she wait until the day before the storm to ask for assistance.....why was her chief of staff more concerned with the Governor's luncheon date with Oprah than running her state?"

Maybe I expect more intelligent discussion than they are able to deliver?

I don't see it here, but I do recall she sent a request for federal assistance: It was a request that they fully fund several types of public assistance accounts while waiving the normal requirement LA to match any of it. Had nothing to do with allowing troops in, or providing supplies. It was purely a request for money.

This is off topic, but. Apparently today is Julian's birthday and he's been opening presents on the set. He unwrapped one present to reveal a dozen golf balls.

As he opened them Kieren Chetry said "He's always wanted some balls." Absolutely was a coffee-spitter!

Did anyone else see that little exchange?

Julian is annoying.

Everyone who has organized anything knows that it takes days to find buses, fuel trucks, and drivers - and get them moving.

Buses guzzle gas/diesel. The closer one got to New Orleans, the more rare fuel would become. Logistics demands would require that FEMA scare up fuel trucks to make sure that any buses sent would be able to leave New Orleans with their passengers. 24 hours isn't near enough time.

This doesn't even take into account that the Feds advised the mayor and governor to evacuate and coordinate an evacuation several days prior to Katrina's landfall, when action might've been possible.

Absolutely... I'd pick up the phone and call the President....for goodness sakes.

One could smell this coming...I remember when Gov Chiles of Florida would not allow the former President Bush to send federal troops to his state when south Florida was hammered....and then blamed the President for not responding...

It's text book democrat MO....

Good morning all!

The Blanco memos on Katrina are hitting this morning, something I have been looking forward to with relish!

XNN highlighted the story this morning and used negative language connected with it. I took this to mean that it was truly bad news for Blanco.

Fox just spun it as showing support for Blanco.

These releases do show a coordinated policy of blaming it all on FEMA and GWB.

Here are the AP releases:

http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/K/KATRINA_BLANCO_CORRESPONDENCE_GLANCE?SITE=FLTAM&SECTION=US

http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/K/KATRINA_BLANCO_CORRESPONDENCE?SITE=FLTAM&SECTION=US

This is apparently the original -note the last few paragraphs left off the main feed releases!:

http://www.thetowntalk.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051204/NEWS01/512040318/1002

Here is the NY Slimes view- surprisingly critical of Blanco (in spite of the Blame Bush mentality):

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/12/04/national/nationalspecial/04blanco.html?pagewanted=1&ei=5094&en=2f10e8213e46f9e0&hp&ex=1133758800&adxnnl=0&partner=homepage&adxnnlx=1133700250-Yij0TSaWk8IduXxknDA0Gg

I cannot find a link to the raw data mentioned several times. It supposedly is on a Louisiana web site with access only to journalists. Maybe a fellow freeper could get access.

Here is the info on the Congressional Committee..apparently the have not created a web site.

You don't have to rely on Fox and friends. There are stories in media all across america today, and some yesterday about this. The Times Picayune had the best one late yesterday. Search for it on FR. Keyword Blanco. Many other newspapers have stories. Not all are negative. A lot of this exposes Blanco.

I missed it.

As far as Blanco is concerned. 24 hours? That's crazy. You ask for buses months in advance. Where is FEMA or anyone else going to come up with 500 buses, just 24 hours in advance? This could of and should have been part of the state's and local government's disaster plans. In fact, it was- they just never implemented it. As we all clearly saw, buses were parked and later floating

Amen to that Randita,
I am an Ivan survivor and my area took the brunt of the hurricane.

It took FEMA about 4-5 days to set up shop for the Pensacola, Florida- Gulf Shores, Alabama area.

There was no looting, raping and murdering going on here.

You did not see the angry hate filled faces on television, blaming the President Bush for the hurricane and destruction.

The majority of the people in these areas pulled themselves up by their own boot-strap and banded together to assist other(s), without federal assistance.

Blanco, Nagin and Landrieu and the other NOLA representatives dropped the ball on this disaster, yet they employ the (DNC catch all) of blame others.

When dems are in charge we can always expect leaderless actions, anarchy, rising crime, promulgated racial tensions and finger pointing to cover their sorry communist asses.

Rebuilding NOLA should only be for the port of entry for imports and exports.

Why rebuild a public assistance welfare area back in NOLA? I would say that logic is like an elevator which fails to reach the top floor, over and over again.

I wonder were all those missing people on the welfare rolls/public assistance have vanished in NOLA? I would be willing to bet they never existed. This was just like five or six hundred non-existent police officers on the pay-roll.

I hope a federal investigation is in motion to bring all those to justice who continue to steal from America and the working people, who support our great country.

May Justice Prevail,
NSNR-FATD&S

Well, it got better. They gave Julian another gift. He opened it and he said he needed it. It was a contact brush, and he explained that he plays golf, and when you play golf, "your balls get dirty." Kiran melted down but composed herself and asked, "Do you use that to clean your balls and your shoes?" I'm still laughing.

You are right on about rebuilding NO. My son and I were here during the hurricane. It was though a bomb went through. We waded through the water to try and clean out the drains not realizing that the pumps had been turned off. I was a big fiasco. We had a generator and could get local TV and watched Nagin, Blanco, and Landrieu put the spin on but we weren't buying. We had buses remember - they flooded. So much went wrong I don't have space to tell. They dropped the ball and I hope come reelection time people of NO remember. We are dying to see Blanco, and Nagin and Landrieu out of office.
