Bozell allowed Mapes to make the most outrageous charges against the so called 'radical' right without any comment from Bozell at all.
Sometimes just letting a person talk can be the most effective method of discrediting someone.
Watched some of this last night.
The woman is completely insane.
She seems defensive. Is she a shill for the RATS? C'mon...
Mapes is a joke. I wish Bozell would ask her, "As a woman, how does it make you feel that CBS fired you, yet let all your male counterparts remain? Does this action pattern Bill Clinton's abandonment of Zoe Baird and Lani Guinere?"
Trying to get anything of substance out of her is a waste of time. She is simply yet another victim of the "Bush camp". What a sad woman.

Bozell comes across as somewhat of a bozo. He seems to ack the specific factual knowledge to rebut her or challenge her (for example, regarding fonts, MS Word, etc), which is deeply disappointing, since there are so many others (including many Freepers) who could have done a better job.

It has been my moral conviction for many years that one should never, under any circumstances, respond to a lie. A failure to respond to a lie is indeed, as Martha Stuart might say, a "good thing."
Buckhead vs Mapes would have made for an interesting show. :)

Agreed. So far he is just providing a polite platform for her to defend her hit piece. He asks appropriate opening questions on various topics but then lets her off with any kind of lies and obfuscations she wants to dodge with....zero aggressive followup.
Biggest laugh so far...Mapes says she made every possible effort to find anything which might discredit the documents!! What color is the sky in her world? Bozell is a major, major disappointment.
She doesn't think pieces have to be "balanced."

OK I'm switching off. Bozell didn't do his research in preparation for this interview, and boy does it show. What a missed opportunity.

And repeatedly Bozell will make reference to a particular name or fact and get some nuance of it wrong. She corrects him and he stammers around apologetically looking the lame fool. He called that guy Ben Barnes, Lynn Barnes, among many other goofs. You can not do a tough interview if you do not have the basic facts down. What a waste.
Mapes is in serious denial. I watched for half an hour or so, but any chances of her 'coming clean' are nonexistent.
It's on again, and it's even more maddening the second time. Bozell could have offered any number of facts -- for example, the fact that, using manual "centering" only, that it would be impossible to create the doc on a manual typewriter, no matter what fonts were on the typing wheel.
Instead of directly attacking Mapes' facts, Bozell can only use the 2nd-hand form of argument that says, "well, other organizations say the docs were forgeries". That's a far weaker argument and not the same as directly bring the damning facts forward and confronting Mapes directly.
He's a BOZO.
Tony Snow could be the moderator. He's got the perfect temperament, intelligence, and insight for the job. Calling FOXNews, calling FOX News...
Watching her eyes throughout the interview, she appears to struggle with telling the truth, JMO.
My idea of a good time would be to have her on cross-examination.

I generally would agree that you shouldn't let lies go unanswered...and in Bozell's case, I don't think its an interview strategy...
However, in the case of Mary Mapes, she is soooooo obviously out of her mind, that her ranting all by herself is response enough.....

Buckhead, and others, did some inspired work creating comparison overlays, etc. But, in general, the idea that it takes some kind of document expert to instantly judge the documents as not apparently authentic documents from a Viet Nam era typewriter is ridiculous. I am estimating that there are perhaps a million people in the U.S. who saw the arrival of WYSIWYG, Windows, PageMaker, Adobe and then TrueType proportional fonts, then proportional spacing in ordinary word processing software and the arrival of laser and ink jet printers capable of rendering any font on papers. Probably a million people interesting in producing nice-looking documents watched all this technology overtake monospace typewriters and understand perfectly well what is wrong with the forged documents. So Mapes, Rather and CBS want to tell us that they looked hard at the authenticity but just didn't pick up on this. Does not pass the ROFLMAO test.
This gets me beyond anything else. Mapes is exempt from EVERYONE until she wishes to make some sort of paid statement.
Rather Dan still pays. Mapes will, too. I'm kewl wiff it...
My idea of a good time would be watching you do it.

A journalist must walk a fine line. Question too aggressively, and you won't get the next interview. Seem too easy, and get razzed for lacking male...well, you know.

Well, if I were trying for 5 years to get the info that would, at the very least, wound the president and stir up the media sharks just before an election - I'd have to justify myself somehow. Insane? Maybe.

The interesting thing is not that C-Span or any other news organization is interviewing Mapes...but rather that none of the news media outlets dare match her up head to head with Buckhead.
Letting her spin is something that liberals can tolerate, as she is one of their own, but letting her be refuted live is something that they can't bear.
Which is to say, they fear us...and they know that their argument is weak.
Bozell did something quite similar, Hoodat. Mentioning that withing a very brief period of time ABC, NBC, CNN, The Slimes and WaPo suddenly pulled out all their support for Ms. Mapes and the Memo.
Watching her trying to tap dance around Brent's questions was a laughably inept joke.

Well, I guess this is why you don't see Brent on TV much.
He's got to do some basic homework before he does a possible headline-making interview with someone like the psychotic Mapes. He doesn't have to be rude or vicious, just capable of politely asking pointed, relevant questions. Personally, I would start any interview with Mapes by showing her (and the audience) the graphic, irrefutable video proof that the forged memos were produced using the factory settings on your basic Microsoft Word program. Then I would sit back and give her all the time in the world to "explain".
