To bring a market share to Sirius.

Wired did an entire interview and coverage about this months ago.

Howard has a national audience. They made the contract with him in hopes he will bring as much of his audience over as possible.

Probably because Stern had O'Reilly on a couple times when O'Reilly had books to sell.

I saw Stern interviewed on 60 Minutes last night.The guy strikes me as being a very intelligent,articulate guy. In fact,I think that I even saw a little bit of "refinement" there.

But then,I think back to the 3 minutes of his radio show that I once listened to ("I wonder what black chicks smell like 'down there'...probably like watermelon") and that on-air phone call that he made to Air Florida the day after their tragic crash in DC ("how much do you charge for a flight from Dulles to the 17th Street Bridge?") and I know that regardless of how intelligent he may be,he's nothing more than a foul-mouthed,worthless punk.

There are things of minor insignificance posted and then there are things of major insignificance posted.

You've covered the bases.

I guess you're saying that Stern appeals to the folks who watch Fox news.

regardless of how intelligent he may be,

You are too kind. What exists appears in reality. Stern has never been heard of saying anything intelligent. He just passes air through the microphone...

Oh, sure :-)
Yes, I have always put Howard up there with the intellectuals and the well-informed in America...

How did they fit that much ego in one room?

Howard Stern is a self proclaimed narcissist. I think Bill O. may even possess a few narcissistic traits.

"Proposed Amended Criteria for the Narcissistic Personality Disorder

Feels grandiose and self-important (e.g., exaggerates accomplishments, talents, skills, contacts, and personality traits to the point of lying, demands to be recognised as superior without commensurate achievements);

Is obsessed with fantasies of unlimited success, fame, fearsome power or omnipotence, unequalled brilliance (the cerebral narcissist), bodily beauty or sexual performance (the somatic narcissist), or ideal, everlasting, all-conquering love or passion;

Firmly convinced that he or she is unique and, being special, can only be understood by, should only be treated by, or associate with, other special or unique, or high-status people (or institutions);

Requires excessive admiration, adulation, attention and affirmation – or, failing that, wishes to be feared and to be notorious (Narcissistic Supply);

Feels entitled. Demands automatic and full compliance with his or her unreasonable expectations for special and favourable priority treatment;

Is "interpersonally exploitative", i.e., uses others to achieve his or her own ends;

Devoid of empathy. Is unable or unwilling to identify with, acknowledge, or accept the feelings, needs, preferences, priorities, and choices of others;

Constantly envious of others and seeks to hurt or destroy the objects of his or her frustration. Suffers from persecutory (paranoid) delusions as he or she believes that they feel the same about him or her and are likely to act similarly;

Behaves arrogantly and haughtily. Feels superior, omnipotent, omniscient, invincible, immune, "above the law", and omnipresent (magical thinking). Rages when frustrated, contradicted, or confronted by people he or she considers inferior to him or her and unworthy."

I was out picking up some auto supplies today and heard Howard on the radio talking about the BOR interview and he was making fun of how bad he looked because of the lighting and his makeup on the set there. It was hilarious and there was no politics or vulgar talk for the 10 minutes I heard. It is sad that he does some crappy stuff, because he can be funny without it.

I agree with you. Unfortunately, I think Howard Stern has become lazy during the past few years and has relied on sex instead of comedy in order to titillate listeners.

Without the constraints of the FCC, I believe his satellite radio show will end up 90% pornography and 10 % comedy.
