Wealthy Nations Owe 'Climate Debt' to Poor, Greens Say

Montreal (CNSNews.com) - Environmental groups attending the United Nations Climate Change Conference have demanded that the U.S. and the other industrialized nations pay a "climate debt" to the poor nations for contributing to catastrophic, human-caused "global warming."

"Let's face it, [the developing countries] are not responsible for the problem and yet they are the most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change," said Catherine Pearce, international climate campaigner for Friends of the Earth International (FOEI). Pearce spoke with Cybercast News Service at the 11th annual U.N. Climate Change Conference in Montreal.

"It is total over-exploitation by the North[ern Hemisphere] and the North is just using up the natural resources of the world for its own gain and its own benefit," Pearce said. She noted that "people are being thrown off their land (in developing countries) to grow mono-culture plantations" that are used by industrialized countries.

"What Northern countries can be doing is to repay some of [their climate] debt in terms of resources, financing, [and] technology to countries of the South[ern Hemisphere]," she added.

Friends of the Earth International sponsored a panel discussion on "climate justice" at the U.N. conference on Monday.

Of course they are nothing but a bunch of commies. Canada, Russia, and the Scandinavian countries owe us big time for warming up their deep freeze style countries.

Yesterday it was "Men are mostly responsible, women mostly impacted".

This is what the global warming hoax has been about all along.

Redistribution of wealth.

At least they are no longer pretending.

The more we give, the more they stay poor.

Self sufficiency is required. Eliminating foreign aid altogether would work better.

Let's pay off the debt by sending them all our Greens. Tell those countries they can employ them the way they want. Digging latrines and other forms of stoop labor.

"Let's face it, [the developing countries] are not responsible for the problem and yet they are the most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change ..."

I believe that this is the same group that was complaining about the strip-burning of the Brazilian Rain Forests and lack of smokestack scrubbers on eastern European manufacturing plant. At that time they were accusing these developing countries of causing most of the damage to the environment. I guess they figured out that the US has deeper pockets.

"North is just using up the natural resources of the world for its own gain and its own benefit"

First, "global warming" is an unproven theory, against which a lot of scientific evidence is beginning to accumulate.

Second, the US has led the world in the development and application of anti-pollution devices and technologies. Think I read somewhere that, on our own, we're doing more to curb pollution and the creation of greenhouse gasses than most of the signatories to Kyoto.

Third, there has never been a net movement of wealth from the developing world to the West. Even in colonial times, the imperial powers put way more investment into their colonies than was ever extracted from those colonies. And today, with foreign aid, debt forgiveness, low-priced pharmaceuticals and free technology transfers, net gains by the developing world continue (and continue to be squandered by corrupt and incompetent governments).

I don't know why I even posted this. The kind of assinine comments coming from the envirowhackos doesn't even rate a response.

If they don't want our industrialization, let's not send them any of the products of it, either: medicines, communications, charity, doctors, call centers...

Ayn Rand was right. We're in the middle of the Anti-Industrial Revolution.

Michael Moore's flatulence contributes more to global warming than the entire US.
