I suspect the return on invetsment is higher in India when it concerns the field Microsoft covers.

It's been eight hours now, and he still hasn't shown up. Got any articles handy thrashing Vista or praising Linux?

LMFAO! I can only assume that you're talking about me or GE. Dude, I have a life. I don't live here.

I'm not in favor of outsourcing. But it's a tough problem to address. High taxation and wages in industrialized countries have pushed companies to find ways to either increase their productivity or decrease their expenses. This move is targeted at the latter.

Our India outsourcing "partner" sent a guy over to spend six months learning our system. The week he returned to India, he quit to go to a higher paying competitor---much to the amusement of us grunts.

Who you looking for? Hope you're not as obsessed with me now as you are with Microsoft, but I haven't been around here in about a week.

As for this report, it's very disapointing. I'd like to see all US companies do close to 100% of their hiring here in the US, and thankfully Microsoft still has the majority of their employees in the US.

But several other companies like IBM have far more employees in India or especially in China than Microsoft does. I think I read somewhere IBM has almost as many employees in China than Microsoft does overall.

Nor does Microsoft give software away for India and China to copy and resell as "Asianux" either. They are trying to enforce the value of US technology, and charge a fair price for it, around the world, not give technology away for free like so many of the leftists want.

At least they're working for a large profitable US corportation, and not donating their code for free to the U.N.

I've noticed. You also apparently have other interests than just tech threads on FR. You're a partisan in your support of Microsoft solutions, just as I'm a partisan for alternative solutions. Nothing intrinsically wrong with either side, (although you're completely wrong in every important respect <grin>).

It is the incessant trolling, single-minded trolling and disruptive behavior that I dislike. Folks having strong opinions about things is one of the things that makes this such a great site. There is a difference though, between someone with strong opinions and a troll.

I'm suprised given other posts of yours that you'd appear to be cutting Microsoft a break on this because of "high taxation and wages" (though I'd defninitely agree with you about the high taxation part) because from everything I've seen on the subject, very few companies that have jumped on this 'outsourcing' bandwagon have seen the benefits realized that they were expecting from it. Perhaps Microsoft can make it pay off, but I doubt it.

I think in general, such moves as this are short sighted in the worst way, and are not good for America. I don't like it when GE, Dell, Microsoft, or anyone else does it.

Due to the extremely large number of inaccurate and idiotic posts you've presented to this point, and your tendancy to encompass the very definition of the word "troll" on this forum, you are no longer relevant. Thanks and have a nice day.

inaccurate and idiotic posts

Perfect description of your posts, not mine. Did you ever figure out the difference between a patch and a workaround? How about how to upgrade your browser without losing all your favorites? And hopefully you're not still arguing that encryption can be effective without keeping your private keys private.

Oh, c'mon, lighten up. Life is too short to have a coronary over trolling. Besides, sometimes it's pretty damned funny...

I'm not really cutting MS (or any other US company) a break for outsourcing. I understand the economics. It sucks. These companies are being pressured to choose between high taxes/salaries and lower cost (but questionable quality). But, like you, I'm a believer that most outsourcing doesn't pay off. There are a lot of obstacles: language, culture, time-zone differences, commitment, developer quality, etc. For every company that has success at outsourcing, there are ten more that don't.

I think in general, such moves as this are short sighted in the worst way, and are not good for America. I don't like it when GE, Dell, Microsoft, or anyone else does it.

Totally agree. I'm a believer in the obligation of a company to enhance shareholder value -- but I think there are higher obligations to country that matter more. Like not sharing IP secrets that affect national security. Job losses that affect the economy affect national security.

You're not alone.

Seems that they need extreme micromanagement to get results. And, the turnover at some of these firms are so high that it's impossible to get real support once they deliver the product.

Why is it that every Microsoft thread turns into a Linux v. Microsoft debate?

pganini, please see the last OS project of the week to which the MS trolls started the same type of attacks on a thread which had nothing to do with MS..
