Expecting 1-3 in. in Maryland.

Check out this weather model: http://www.wunderground.com/modelmaps/maps.asp?model=NAM&domain=US (not the pink one)
1-3" does not a "blizzard" make.
1-3" is not a blizzard.
Maybe 13", but not 1-3".
highwinds do make a blizzard, no matter the snowfall, as long as it snows.
Agreed! But I love how the news always add a little.
Oh yeah...Trying living in Dallas! When 2 inches of snow falls everything stops!
Inches do not make a blizzard. Highwinds do.
Our ski resorts here in Colorado have over 12 FEET of snow!
1-3 inches is still BICYCLE weather! ;-)
It does if your in Atlanta.
:) I love the snow. I want a blizzard!
The winter of 76-77 brought the only true blizzard of my lifetime. We had 3 feet of snow on level ground and didn't go to school for more than a week.
Boston got 32 inches of snow two years ago this week. The other day, 1-3" of snow were forecast for the area but I didn't see a single flake fall (apparently the storm went slightly to the south, and "dry air" evaporated the snow
before it could reach the ground). Weather forecasters got a bit of egg on their face. **
**--which can only remind me of onetime Boston sportscaster
Zip Rzeppa, who predicted a Super Bowl win for one team.
When the other team won, he said, "Boy, do I have egg on
my face!" and smashed an egg on his face. He did the rest of the sports report with egg sliding down his face.
2 in. cleans out toilet paper, milk, eggs, etc. from store. IT MUST BE A BLIZZARD! I'm from Michigan - 6 in a day type a weather.
Snow pisses me off.
/wanders away, muttering "Who even bothers to plow or shovel for mere inches of snow??!!
Snow isn't the problem, it's the damn ice. At least snow has some traction.
Can I borrow your shovel?
LOL. I can guarantee ours will look like a plague of locusts hit 'em :)
Hmmmm. So this would mean a "white out" scenario?
This is what makes it "blizzardy"
Thursday Night
Snow likely. Moderate snow accumulation possible. Cold. Lows in the mid 20s. Southeast winds around 10 mph...becoming south 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph after midnight. Chance of snow 70 percent.
[partlycloudy]
Friday
Partly cloudy in the morning...then clearing. Breezy with highs in the mid 30s. West winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. Wind chill values as low as 8 above in the morning.
ROFL!
Ain't even gonna bother puttin' the blower on the Polaris for that pitiful little bit of dust....;D
[but you just watch...all the tranplanted McMansionites will be out buying bread/milk/toilet paper like it's the end of the world as we know it]
Sure! I'll have Santa drop it off, he's doing practice flights over us now, (Sorta like the Blue Angels, but a lot quieter).
LMAO at the idiot forecasters, NO ONE can get it right with all the modern technology they have, amazing......throw the crap computers out and just forecast by looking out the freakin' window....yesterday here in Boston they were predicting snow and NOTHING happened, NOTHING, typical, I can't stand winter because of these idiot forecasters predicting wrong, constant updates about an inch or two and reporters on the beach or on the highway showing us how wet or dry the snow is, I would think with all the freakin' crime in Boston the reporters would have better things to do.......
by meteorological definition a blizzard is a snowstorm containing winds in excess of 35 mph for longer than 3 hours with reduced visibilty to less than 1/4 mile. I remember a couple of times where it would snow 6 inches or so and the winds would be at 60 mph in Kansas for days, we would get 10 foot snowdrifts and driving was impossible for a couple of days.
True. I want snow this time A half foot would be fine...Of course being Texas...it'll be gone the next day....with temps in the 60's.
WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!
Man you are lucky to live there. 1-3" is still running weather for me. Nothing like laying down tracks in vigin powder!
Yep that would be correct.
With two weeks to go before winter, it's a little early for the "Blizzard of '05" award.
Yeah, well, they got EVERYTHING right with regard to global warming though, huh?
< /sarcasm >
"but we didn't call it a hurricane!!"
The local DC station reporting it did.
[consider the source]...:)
Isn't it early for the "Winter DeathStorm '05" hype to kick in??
See that would mean you do not understand the definition of a blizzard then. See my above posts on it.
I laugh too when they dramatize 'Blizzard of' or 'Storm of the Century" even though we just started the century.
We will see! I just want work off.
The white death comes to Cowtown.
I'll bet the bread and milk are already in short supply.

Actually according to the NWS definition, ACTUAL Blizzards ANYWHERE on the East Coast, especially at low elevation. are exceedingly rare. (I think there's been some loosening of standards recently, but they're still practically non-existent.)
What people don't understand is you can have 3 feet of snow and without the winds it isn't a blizzard.
I remember that storm. We lived quite aways out with no close neighbors. Friends did visit after several days on a snow machine to make sure we didn't need anything.
When they finally got to our road they started with a snowplow, gave us and brought in a dozer, gave up again and cleared 1/4 mile of road one scope at a time with a front end loader.
Oh this I know, but it sure sucks to be around. And whenever you drive in heavy snowfall no matter what its a blizzard condition as you drive.
It's "I have a 4 wheel drive Christmas shopping day" here in KC. 14 degrees (our high for the day", light snow, and no lines. I'm in the parking lot with the kids watching Bob the Builder while my wife is tearing through the store with wanton disregard. God Bless America
My neighbor said she is expecting 8 inches tonite. Hmmmmm????.
