“Bush Lied About WMD” — retort

Posted on 12/07/2005 12:26:40 PM PST by Retain Mike

George Bush lied about weapons of mass destruction. I quote, “We have known for years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing WMD’s. Iraq’s search for WMD’s has proven impossible to deter and we should assume it will continue as long as Saddam is in power. He has systematically violated, over the course of the past 11 years, every significant UN resolution that demanded he disarm and destroy his chemical and biological weapons, and any nuclear capacity. The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. There is unmistakable evidence Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years. That is why we must be prepared to use force, if necessary, to disarm Saddam Hussein and eliminate Iraq’s WMD’s once and for all.”

The above quotes compile statements respectively by Ted Kennedy, Al Gore, Henry Waxman, Robert Byrd, Jay Rockefeller, and John Edwards. These quotes concerning WMD’s were uncontested points in 2002, which then formed the basis for further discussions. The legend persists instead that these and similar statements were talking points exclusively for George Bush. Contact your newspaper if you are interested in sources. Let us move the debate beyond this mythology.

This letter takes a bit different approach to the Bush lied issue and has received some notice here in Oregon, so I decided to post it. However, I don't know if it should be posted separately, or as a comment to the post of an article. I would sure appreciate feedback from you folks about what the proper appraoch would be for something like this. Thank you.

How about some clickable links, too? HTML tags are easy and we are a lazy lot for good reason ;)

Make your links work.

Overall good approach to the issue.

Also, in addition to all this, there is evidence of WMDs moved out of the country during the long period leading up to our invasion. It seems that no one on either side of the aisle has the courage to address this possibility. Oh, I know that throws gasoline on the fires of dealing with Syria and Iran, hence the cowardice. But still, it needs to be addressed.

Why would Bush lie about WMDs? I mean, if he knows there aren't really any there, he knows he going to get caught on this. Why would he lie?

I like the approach...

One problem though. The libs will simply counter that the Dims made these comments because Bush "cooked" the intelligence. A lie, we know. But it would help if you got the statements made by Dims during the 90's when Bush wasn't anywhere near a position to "cook" the intelligence.

FYI...

You know that if they ever find any caches in the desert, the story from the DUmmies will be that Bush had them planted.
If Saddam ever comes clean, it will be that Bush has paid him off to say that he had them.
