Dem chairman says party stands for 'moral values'
Stung by a Republican charge that his party wants to surrender in Iraq, Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean said Friday night that Democrats stand for "moral values" at home and winning the war on terror.
About 2,000 wildly applauding Florida Democrats turned out for a pep rally at Walt Disney World, on the eve of their state conference, to hear Dean and other national party leaders blast President Bush and Republican policies in Congress. Earlier in the day, the GOP had posted an Internet advertisement featuring a white flag - with sound bites from Dean and Sens. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., and John Kerry, D-Mass., sharply attacking military policies in Iraq.
"We want no more walls with 55,000 names of courageous Americans who were let down by their government," said Dean. "Democrats are united - we are united in our belief that we can and must win the war on terror."
The GOP advertisement featured a quote in which Dean said the Iraq war cannot be won by American forces. In his speech, he distinguished between Iraq and a broader terror war - saying 50,000 National Guard and reserve troops should be withdrawn within six months and that 20,000 others should be deployed to Afghanistan.
Dean also said American forces should "be stationed in the region, but not in Iraq" to deal with insurgents.
Panhandle Rep. Jeff Miller, and Congressman Tom Feeney, issued statements blasting Dean's estimate that the Iraq war can't be won. Miller said his comments were "a direct attack on the morale" of American troops and "bordered on treasonous."
Feeney said Democrats show "liberal rhetoric and defeatist mentality" in dealing with serious issues.

The Democrat Party is more desperate than Dean
If they fire him they will anger their base, the local party officials who voted him in
If they are smacked down from on high by the party bigwigs, they will be demoralized
And a demoralized base will not vote.
I'm almost, but not yet, to the point of rooting for his firing for the schism that would ensue as a result.
Plus, not being head of the DNC would free Mad How up for a 2008 run.
Feel free to use what you wish.
Is he kidding? Those responsible for the VN wall and the names engraved upon it are RATs like JFK and especially LBJ who not only got us into the war in the first place, but also applauded its demise through failure to vote for funds in Congress (all RATs voted against funding) and then blaming the Republicans. RATs are morons with zero knowledge of history.
Moral values like you should get a "do-over" if you screw around and get yourself pregnant...or you should be free to have sex with anyone you want anytime you wish without any societal repercussions...those kind of moral values.
Looks like we picked the same 2 out of three moral values!
Greatness knows no limitations, my friend.
When he does lose his job it will further illustrate how incredibly insane and inept the democratic party has become.
Dean is trying to use the new Jim Wallis playbook. I don't think it is working.
That's funny. Moral values..irreligion, gay marriage, abortion, government controlling every aspect of our lives, love of murderers, political correctness dictating all domestic and policy, international cowardice, prejudice against non approved groups. This guy should have taken Johnny Carson's place.
Dean is unarmed.
I seem to recall that just before the invasion of Afghanistan leaflets were dropped by us that said something to the effect of 'We are here to avenge our dead. Surrender is your only option to survive'. I really liked the sound of that.
I hope not. The man is a GOP gold mine as DNC Chairman. Not only is he inept at raising money, not able to get even 1/3 of what Ken Mehlman raises, but he's also always good for a stupid quote every time he opens his mouth.
General Howard Dean, the brightest military tactician and strategist of all times. Why the Pentagon could not come up with this most innovative idea to defeat the terrorists?! (sarcasm that exceeds all imagination).
I think he is too cocky (and perhaps a little stupid) to realize that he is about to lose his job.
Side effect of 'the short man's syndrome'.
I agree. We shouldn't try to shut up this left wing moonbat. We need to give him a microphone and a TV camera for Christmas and have him talk 24/7/365...... :-)
But it's okay for Dean to spout this nonsense, because "General" Murtha said it first. And Comrade Pelosi BACKED him up!
I would recommend duct tape for Howard but he has become such an asset for the right with his lunatic antics I refrain from doing so.
He certainly is firing off wildly in all directions. The man's basic mental instability is beginning to assert itself more with each passing outburst.
I think Dean has been informed by the rest of his Party that if he doesn't start scaring up some campaign contributions for their races, they'll be thinking about replacing him. They have another month to decide if they're going to can him and replace him. After a month, it will be hard for them to switch chairs and run an effective fundraising campaign.
To some it may seem that Defective Dean is preferable to a change at the hand that stirs the pot. I certainly hope they wait to long and don't change him out, but I doubt the Democrats can really put up with the damage he's causing to their party.
He's the supreme Max Headroom, spouting differentiations "[t]he press want[] to focus on," but then he's left without having memorized the deeper underpinnings of the polling so as to come up with rational-sounding characterizations of the Borg's output.
With these puzzle pieces in such disarray, Dean wakes up afresh to each new day, unencumbered by any history behind the freshly steaming DNC talking points. Being truly without scruples, willing to ride any extreme sound-bite to regaining their power, "out it comes!"
This problem was predictable to anyone who knew Deano and the Faustian deal he made to be the DNC Chairdummy.

"Accept in iraq, where we won in 2003"
He's not "firing back" he's digging his hole deeper.
Other than Reagan, Howard Dean is the best thing that ever happened to the Conservative movement.
Is that Goofy on the left?
Howard Dean's Big Head -- 12/10/2005
Old Deanie is really intense,
You can't say he sits on a fence,
He states his opinion
But never can win in
A race, 'cause his ego's IMMENSE.
Thanks. I'm going to start collecting them.
I guess Dean forgot who was in charge of our government that sent troops to NAM that created the need for a monument with 55,000 names on it!
And the JERK says our President needs a History lesson
Mad How is the gift that keeps on giving
Just cause you say it, Howard, don't make it so.
No, but he might be making a side trip to Key West for the hurricane delayed "Festival Day". Now that's one totally disgusting use of civil rights!
LOL....hard to tell... must be twins?
General Scream is leading the Defeatocrats to yet another reversal in the 2006 midterms. I'd call it a "forced march" if so many in the party weren't running to overtake him. Lead on, Scream, lead on!
Bill the drill Klintoon and Barney Fag...yes, the Dems stand for IMmoral values alright Howie. BTW, how many babies has your party killed with their moral values? Only DIMwits on KoolAide believe anything this lying weasel says.
HF
Yep, he probably is. But not for his big and hateful mouth, directly, but because he can't raise money.
My thoughts exactly! Keep attacking him and he's gonna blow a gasket.....this is the psyche of a desperate idiot....
If he hadn't blown up in Iowa he very well could have been the Dem nominee last year. Then he would have blown up during the campaign which would have been even sweeter.
So why is Howard Dean doing everything he can to make sure that our government lets down our troops in Iraq?
Nah, he was dead before the scream. The major Dem players had decided he couldn't beat Bush, so he was done. Just like what happened to Janet Reno. And what may even happen to Frau Clinton in '08.
Possibly. He should have known that the party wasn't going to let him win in Iowa.
I wonder if his time is limited as party Chairman, I thought he promised he would not get into politics, but concentrate on fund raisers and etc......can always trust Ol'Dean.
Sort of a "Republicans for Howard Dean". I like it; it has a ring.
