I saw it yesterday. Charming at times, but it does not come close to touching LOTR in depth and majesty. (But neither does Lewis compare with Tolkien.)

Allan, my review:-)

No, there is nothing overly frightening in the movie, the battle scenes are broad in scope, nothing too gory... Frankly I wouldn't worry about "explaining" the religeous symbolism, leave that stuff for College literary class... honestly I think way way way too much is made of it.

End of the day, its a good story about the epic, and never ending battle of Good V. Evil.

If you want to explore the symbolism of the thing, you really should read the book, and not rely on a screen adaptation to give you what you seek.

"Disney made the right call on this. The market was there" ........ Yeah, go figure a truly "entertaining" movie the ENTIRE family can go see DURING a big holiday season. Who'da thunk it? $urprise! $urprise! We're going to go see it. I appreciate "quality" entertainment that needs to be viewed on the big theatre screen. Besides I'm completely entranced by the big lion face on the movie posters. Who ever came up with that image did a super job. The lions eyes are so captivating.

well i meant die as in die and stay dead. having gone to Catholic school she is well versed in the religious aspect of things and i think seeing it that way will help her with the movie.. when she and i read DOG BOOKS together and the dog gets sick or dies, we both bawl our heads off! she inherited my soft heart.

Brokeback Mountain will make a ton of money.

Indeed. 'Brokeback Mountain' has a LONG future as the main feature at 25-cent 'peephole' cinemas all across America.

I think I will wait for KONG to arrive.

At least Kong is chasing hot blonds in his flick. Kong IS a male in this remake, right?

This show does a bit
about Brokeback Kong that is
probably better

than either real film
will be. I couldn't track down
any pics from it.

The Christian allegories came through loud and clear, which is nothing short of a miracle IMO.

Excellent! Thanks for the good news.

We successfully avoided the Potter craze, but without a suitable substitute. So I'm happy that my kids will be able to join in with a cultural phenomenon that has merit.

Episode I" with its virgin-born prince of darkness

They finally got around to more-or-less-sort-of-potentially explaining this in Episode III. Apparently, some Sith Lord or another found a way to spotaneously generate life using his force powers. It is strongly implied that he used these powers to "create" Anakin Skywalker in the womb of an unknowing girl before he was murdered by his apprentice, the future Emperor.

I didn't find it to be particularly offensive, just ponderous and a tad unoriginal.

Another Freeper said that some churches were actually screening LWW on Thursday, the day before it was released in regular theaters, and that the figures for this early showing were not counted in the opening weekend totals. If true, this would have had a definite impact on the dollar amounts.

So did my husband! He keeps talking about her makeup and how "hot" it made her look. Perhaps I should be worried.

I admit I'm a little disappointed that Narnia didn't do even better, even closer to Harry Potter's numbers. But still a respectable, strong showing for an excellent family movie. I hope it has staying power and that word of mouth will cause its numbers to swell.

I love Narnia's "steak" but the marketing juggernaut behind the Potter books gives them some "sizzle," too. Just sayin'...

...unless J K Rowling decides to kill of Potter in the last novel, which is what is predicted.

That merely sets Harry up for some triumphal return from the dead. Were talking Post-modern fantasy, here. No character making money for the author EVER dies. I doubt even the publishers would permit it. I'd almost bet there's a clause...

have you seen it? my 11 yo daughter is pretty sensitive and is balking a bit at seeing it, i really want to take her and i explained the Christian symbolism of it to her and that appeals, but i wanted to know from someone who has seen it, if there is anything too intense. i took her to the first Lord of the Rings movie and she sat with her face in my lap the entire time!

These days, I think parents need to screen movies for their kids. In TLTWW, Jadis (the White Witch) is pretty mean. And she has some wolves that are meaner. Any kids easily spooked by the movies hwould probably wait for the DVDs and watch with friends/family.

True, but I suppose she came about as close to Jadis the White Witch as anyone could. She was a little more frail looking than I imagined the Jadis of the Books.

It isn't LOTR. It is PG and there is not a bit of blood in it.
There are moments that will cause you to jump. The wolves were fantastic but nothing that should scare your daughter.

I'd nearly forgotten about the Giant and I thought not nearly enough time was spent at the castle with Aslan breathing life back into the statues. I also felt that the scene where Badger's party is turned to stone after a visit from father Christmas would've been a nice addition. I would have to agree, Edmund was not nearly greedy enough with the Turkish delight but I had the feeling they were trying to touch just long enough on the essentials while trying to fit everything in for. Maybe there will be a few additions in the Director's release. I was really pleasantly surprised with the actor who did Mr. Tumnus. Initially I thought he didn't look mature enough but he pulled it off well. Aslan was the key for me and they did a grand job of bringing him to life.

I think it is better that they are short else you really end up with a butchered product in the end that only vaguely resembles the book.
