When the 9th Circus says it's ok to go ahead with the execution, a bunch that has opposed most capital punishment it seems like an easy call.
26 years of appeals, 4 murders directly and thousands more indirectly by starting the Crypts gang. If writing childrens books gets you off death row I can see a bunch of new authors coming out.
Freeping a man who must decide if another man should receive clemency is about the most disgusting thing I have ever heard.
It seems to me that if the governor grants clemency, he will in effect say that the death penalty should be repealed for it is no longer "operable" in liberal CA. It would make no sense to keep the death penalty law on the books if this individual is granted clemency.
That's Crips, not Crypts.
Someone's on a high horse today. He's a governor and its perfectly acceptable for his constituents to call him and express their hope that justice will be served. It's moot though, since he's already decided to let Tookie die. If he were going to spare him, he would have announced it by now. He's just trying to minimize the possible rioting or unrest at this point that could result from the execution.
Then lets start freeping jurists deciding death sentences. We might as well start early.
They decided NO so he can decide NO with a clear conscience.
He brought this dilemma upon himself.
He's got very little chance of being elected again, if he even runs.
Governors are public figured elected by their constiuents to enforce the will of the legislature. Juries are not. Big difference!
Crabs is more like it.
He's letting the media build the chances of a riot. ABC News radio leads every hour with Tookie, voting in Baghdad doesn't get as much air time. IMO Arnold should have nipped all this angst in the bud.
C_O: "Governor foments rioting."
A_S: "Governor craves regaining lost adulation."
Awfully, I think your version is much closer. And matches most of my other inclinations. I am going soft.
I don't think it is intentional on his part. Arnold followed a similar pattern on his last death warrant.
You mean given a choice of evil or stupid, he's the latter. And please remind me: which is the stupid party?
Maybe his stupidity proves we've been wrong about Arnold: he fits right in with GOP leadership. (Or does that prove that we've right about GOP leadership?)
That's okay. He's played a broken clock before.
Oh, and after inferring your double-entendre, same answer.
Jurors objectively examine evidence and determine facts. Jurists (judges) objectively study the law and apply it to particular proceedings. What the Governor does in determining clemency is not an objective exercise. The Governor is, to a large extent, a servant of the people. His clemency decisions should be cognizant of what the people determine to be the purpose of the law in our state. I think it is perfectly legitimate for Californians to contact their Governor and demand that justice, as they see it, be done.
