SB-403, Personal Protection Act, Wisconsin Assembly, live debate thread, 12/13/2005
Wisconsin State Assembly ^ | 12/13/05 | Senator ZIEN, Representative GUNDERSON,

Posted on 12/13/2005 6:20:02 AM PST by Monitor

Today, the Wisconsin State Assembly debates SB-403:

"This bill creates a licensing system under which an individual is permitted to carry a concealed weapon under certain circumstances. The bill also makes certain changes in Wisconsin law to account for a federal law that requires the state to permit an individual who works as or who has retired from working as a federal, state, tribal, or local law enforcement officer in Wisconsin or in any other state to carry a concealed firearm under certain circumstances. In addition, the bill changes the law relating to background checks for handgun purchases to require the Department of Justice (DOJ) to determine whether a person seeking to purchase a handgun has been subject to an order or finding regarding his or her mental health that makes the purchase unlawful."

I won't be available most of the day, so if someone could bump this thread when the action starts, I'd appreciate it.

I've got the audio for the Assembly going but nothing there yet. Assuming the Assembly isn't in session yet. If I'm wrong, please let me know.

"The Assembly stands informal." :o\ Assuming that means they're taking a break.

If I understood them correctly, our bill will be up shortly after they resume. But I could be very wrong on that.

We've all heard of the similarity between watching laws and sausages being made, all I know for sure is that if my butcher took this long to make a sausage then Id be afraid of what hes slipping in the grinder...

No kidding. My brother called and told me that there's something some of the critical votes want in this bill but he couldn't remember what. But it didn't sound hopeful if it wasn't included.

I told a look for info here and found this link from yesterday: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1538624/posts

Makes me sick.

If I heard correct, via the live audio feed:

"The Rose committee will meet in the parlor at 8:45."

Whatever that means.

I was in the Assembly gallery for a little while this evening before they started on the Personal Protection Act. There were only about a half dozen people watching the proceedings when I was there.</p>

I don't think they'd be in partisan caucuses unless they were busy arm twisting and counting votes. If they weren't planning on doing something more tonight, they would have adjourned for the evening.

BTW, the Assembly's insession web site is already showing the schedule for the 15th. SB-403 is still listed on today's schedule.

Just my guess, though, FWIW.

What is up with this crap?

Instruction on the privilege of self-defense and the defense of others

Instruction on how to avoid injuring 3rd parties when defending himself, herself, or others in a manner that is privileged under s. 939.48

Privilege? I always thought self defense was a right?
