Report: Satellite Used After Ok. Bombing

In the days after the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing, the U.S. government used a spy satellite to gather intelligence on a white separatist compound in Oklahoma, according to a published report.

The McCurtain Daily Gazette reported Wednesday that it had obtained a Secret Service log indicating that on May 2, 1995 — two weeks after the April 19 bombing — the FBI was trying to locate suspects for questioning. They were thought to be in Elohim City, a compound near the town of Muldrow.

"Satellite assets have been tasked to provide intelligence concerning the compound," the document says.

Shown a copy, Secret Service spokesman Jonathan Cherry told The Associated Press he could not confirm it was a Secret Service document and declined further comment.

There was no indication in the document of what information the satellite might have gathered, or what the spacecraft was capable of doing.

Remote sensing technology along with mass data storage will someday (if it isn't now) be able to allow intelligence agencies track suspects/criminals/terrorists movements, either real-time, or after the fact.

Oh, but there was never any indication that the skinheads were involved... or Muslims... or that Carol Howe was an FBI informant... or that the leader of Elohim City was on the FBI payroll.

Honest. There isn't a shred of evidence to indicate that Billy Boy and the FBI knew Oklahoma City was coming down.

If Jayna Davis is correct, and I tend to think she is, then the whole Elohim City thing is quite probably disinformation.

Hmmmmm. And I was under the impression that satellite surveillance was not used on people in the U.S. I asked somebody "in the know" one time why they couldn't use sat pictures to prove O.J. is a murderer and was told "we don't spy on our own people".

I'm sure a lot more heinous crimes could be solved using such technology, but at what expense to our privacy?

One gets the impression that they were far too busy forging FBI eye witness testimony to care.

And since McVeigh was already in custody, they were looking for who, exactly? The middle-eastern-looking John Doe Number Two? Or their informant?

The Clinton Administration perfected the art of Telling the Truth Slowly. This news is about ten years old. The last chapter on the OKC Bombing has yet to be written.

Despite the fact they had a sketch done of John Doe Number Two, the FBI now insists he does not exist.

"Wow, new news, only 10 years old."

The racist compound leaks follow a pattern generally. Usually they come after someone raises noise about Nichols trips to the Philippines. A counter-leak strategy.

Since Nichols had no connection to the compound its in his lawyers interest to point the finger there. Talking about the Philippines can only implicate him.

I didn't think the FBI had any satellites. Since the NRO, NSA and CIA are not supposed to spy on Americans within our borders this information is a little, shall we say, discomforting.

Did you ever see Enemy of the State? In the movie, the CIA was able to review satellite imagery to track a car that had left a store some time before to its eventual destination. Pretty cool stuff. No reason why it could not be done. I think the JSTARS system does the same thing on a theater-wide basis, from an airborne platform.

"...And liberals complain about Patriot Act powers under Bush."

I think the point is more that we, the people, are woefully ignorant about abuse of power in this country.

One wonders if satellite surveillance of US citizens is now routine? I remember hearing years ago that such surveillance would be strictly illegal, and that it would never happen. Much like using the PA powers for non-terrorist related activities...

I recall all this coming out just after Clinton decided to bulldoze all the evidence at the site.

Anyone else other than Clinton and this would be getting more coverage.

There was a guy, Strassmier (sp) I think. And he is a possible link to this being a bigger cover-up than the media would have you believe.

Clinton, Reno and Gorelick had no problem with a "wall" when it came to spying on what they considered right-wing nuts. The funny thing is that Clinton had a reputation of using the 'N' word as much as those nuts, so he was committing treason against his own....

BTW, does anyone know if those "separitist" actually vote? I am not sure they are right wing or full circle loonie (theory that too far either left or right and you come full circle and share a lot of wacky ideas.)

DEA reportedly has a videotape of the murders, taken by the DEA surveillance team covering Ron Goldman, not the only Mezzaluna employee to be murdered.... On July 30, 1993, eleven months before Simpson/Goldman murders, Ron Goldman's friend Brett Cantor was killed with a knife in a manner identical to Ron and Nicole: from behind and across the throat and stabbed repeatedly on the arms and chest. Michael Nigg, a waiter at the Mezzaluna was shot in the head and killed, another was stabbed to death in Aspen, Colorado and a third Mezzaluna waiter barely survived a car bombing.

Judge Ito's wife, a witness in the trial, was assigned to the LAPD Internal Affairs bureau and served as the LAPD liason to the DEA. Coincidentally, one of Judge Ito's bailiffs was shot to death during the trial, and a private detective consulting to the defense team on DNA evidence was also gunned down.

Whether or not *we spy on our own people* is largely dependent on how close their ties to the then-prominent Hererra drug cartel they are....

No -- his screen name was Michael Rivero. He was a serious conspiracy theorist. As evidence that a Ryder truck identical to the one used in the OKC bombing, with military support equipment and personnel, was indeed at the Special Forces and FEMA training compound at Camp Gruber near Briggs OK at the approximate time of the bombing.

Was he [Mike Rivero ]the guy known as OKCSubmariner? If so, why in the world was he banned? I've asked this countless times but have never received an answer.

Pat Briley, aka OKCSubmariner was from OKC. Pat was a diligent researcher, but, unfortunately, he sometimes exhibited symptoms of paranoid schizophrenia. As long as you agreed with him, all was fine. But, if you disagreed with him in the slightest, you could see his mind magnify that disagreement over the course of an evening from different opinion to perceived attack, to enmity, and, finally, to outright persecution.

Although he had a vast array of facts at hand, he sometimes had difficulty distinguishing his own opinions from his facts -- and he refused to document his evidence. It primarily was for those reasons that we were unable to use his otherwise excellent information in the OKBIC Final Report.

Personally, I like Pat, but I do recall that, in a fit of his paranoid fury he did "out me" once by name in this forum -- a strict no-no... I didn't "blow the whistle on" him, but, perhaps he pulled a similar stunt on a less-forgiving FReeper; I just dont know for sure.

But, I do miss the guy sometimes...
