Well at this point party identification in the Senate appears meaningless on our side. R must mean D

It would be even worse if we allowed state governments to elect the senators.

If you suggest that states get to elect their senators, McCain would be out for someone far worse.

NO! You want McCain to be substituted for a Democrat? Schweitzer is my Governor, and he's a kook liberal. I'd take a RINO over a kook lib any old day.

You know the really infuriating thing? All the agenda items in the last two years go up and die a cold lonely death in the Do Nothing Senate. Yet look at the State by State Senate Approval Ratings. Everyone loves their own Senators. As long as the squishy 7, lead by McCain, keep getting 50-60% approval ratings by stabbing the base in the back. NOTHING is going to change no matter WHAT the White House does.

People had better wake up. McCain's "News Media" strategy seems to be working. Instead of holding the squishy 7 to account everyone, including a LOT of Freepers, are spending all their time blaming Bush for what the Senate is doing. Wake up. Since Watergate all real power in our system in in the hands of the Legislature. As long as a handful of Republican Senators can continually sell out and pay NO political price for selling out, we are going to get NOTHING done in DC. It's time Freepers start making the Senators who sell out PAY the price for selling out. All this whining at Bush is just a cop out to avoid dealing with the REAL problem. The US Senate, specifically it's leadership.

That's for sure. That 52 vote with rino holdouts illustrates that like nothing else. When rinos are deserting the Republican party in a vote on nat. security what good are they?

Don't forget though, the media driven hysteria that President Bush was going to be abusing his powers, and sure enough, the NYT drags out this dated story they've been sitting on for well over a year, just to further gin up that hysteria just to screw Bush and in the process pull the wool over the eyes of the American people that didn't know any better.

A relative of mine was screamin and bawling that she couldn't take her nail file and clippers on the plane with her, and I told her "So EFFEN what! Do that all at home BEFORE you get on the plane!"

Right, but that would be offset because Romney would appoint replacements for Kerry and Kennedy. And Pataki would replace Schumer and Clinton.

And Arnold would replace Boxer and Feinstein.

Okay, McLame is unfortunately one of my senators. What can I DO to express my outrage at his actions as MY representative...besides what I HAVE done -- calling his office, telling everyone I know not to vote for him, etc.

He was reelected recently and isn't up again until 2010. He obviously doesn't listen to his constituents, or there pry aren't a lot of people out there complaining like me.

So what can I realistically do to influence his behavior?

every news cycle must be managed and played, you must have a group of effective "talking heads" who go out everyday with the talking points onto all these cable and radio talk shows to represent the administration's positions.

Who is the role model in coming up with this, Clinton?

that's politics in the era of the new communications mediums. that's how you have to play the game. otherwise, the media fills the vacuum with their own interpretation of events.

I wouldn't use the Clinton model. It was driven by his own personal insecurity and an agenda that had no more depth than the most recent poll. And I think we both know that the media is going to fill their pages and airwaves with their interpretation of events regardless. The key is talking past them and up until now elections show that the Bush White House has been pretty effective, despite the losses of the daily news cycle.
