'Dr Germ' and 'Mrs Anthrax' released from Iraqi jail 19/12/2005 - 12:48:51
Notorious Saddam-Hussein-era officials have been released from jail in Iraq and some have already left the country, an Iraqi lawyer said today.
A legal official in Baghdad said between 24 and 25 top former officials in Saddam Husseins government have been freed, including Rihab Taha, known as Dr Germ, and Huda Salih Ammash, known as as Mrs Anthrax.
The Iraqi lawyer, Badee Izzat Aref, said some of those released were his clients.
The release was an American-Iraqi decision and in line with an Iraqi government ruling made in December 2004, but hasnt been enforced until after the elections in an attempt to ease the political pressure in Iraq, Aref said.
Iraqi officials and the US military did not immediately confirm that information.
Lieutenant Colonel Barry Johnson, the spokesman for the US-led Multinational Force, did say that US officials on Saturday released eight people formerly designated as high-value detainees, after a board process found they were no longer a security threat.
No charges had been filed against the eight, Johnson said. He would not identify them.
The legal official in Baghdad, who asked not to be named because of the sensitivity of the issue, said those released also included Hossam Mohammed Amin, head of the weapons inspections directorate; Aseel Tabra, an Iraqi Olympic Committee official under Saddam Husseins late son Odai; General Dhiaa Maher al-Tikriti; Ibrahim al-Ani, an intelligence official; and Hamid al-Janabi, a prison director.
Are they crazy??? This is like releasing Dr. Mengele!
I have some thoughts on this which I will share in freepmail.
Surely a quid pro quo of some sort took place, otherwise this doesn't make sense.
They may as well release Saddam! :(
Who are these cards?
Who's next? Saddam himself? What the ...?
Please include me too!
Is there another source for this report?
It was mentioned on Fox this morning, but I don't know if they had a separate source or picked up the news from this paper.
Hmmm. Perhaps they were released so it is easier to put them on The List of Dead Microbiologists:
Deal cut? Give up WMDs? or give up Zarqawi?
Iraqi lawyer: Ex-Saddam officials releasedAssociated PressBAGHDAD, Iraq - An Iraqi lawyer said Monday that about 24 former top officials in Saddam Hussein's government have been released from jail in Iraq, and some have left the country.
A legal official in Baghdad said Rihab Taha, known as "Dr. Germ," and Huda Salih Ammash, known as as "Mrs. Anthrax," were among those released. Iraqi officials did not immediately confirm the information.
Our folks know what they're doing.
Wonder if this has anything to do with soothing the Sunni insurgency?
Thanks for the ping.
To all who are reading this thread: I would like to strongly suggest that any speculation about this story be confined to freepmail.
Two things come to mind.
1) A scientist being controlled by a madman has limited ability to resist. Their family may have been at risk.
2) They could have demonstrated this by giving EVERYTHING they had as soon as Saddam was put under lock and key.
So, we now negotiate with terrorists? They're holding detainees in Gitmo for less than the crimes these two committed.
Great move (sarc.), now they can go to Syria, hop a flight to Iran, and they're back to work for big bucks.
If they were working for $$ you are right.
If they were working to prevent their entire family lineage from being killed, you are wrong.
Great! Now they can go dig up the hidden WMD and sell it to the terrorists, not to mention that they have the knowledge to make more.
They've gone to join their WMDs in Syria.

Great. Didn't we just found out that the Iraqis had Zarqawi last year and released him, wasn't that a great idea?! What do they think these former Baath officials with lots of technical knowledge are going to do?
I bet Bin Laden and Zarqawi is on the phone with them already, offering them $$$$$.
Let me know too. Hope there is a method to this madness.
how about a hint?
I would appreciate it if anyone who has received a freepmail from me would take the time to pass on what I said to those who are curious. Thanks!
AKI report has them being sent to Jordan

I think so too.
Maybe some hostages were released?
rense.com is the most wingnut website out there. Just read there theory on 9/11 and you will understand.
Include me too in the email list.
Can someone please freepmail Miss Marple's thoughts to me? I keep my mouf shut.
I bet they "chipped" them.
Maybe we have done just that. I am sure we have a very close eye on her as we speak.
Anything you could pass along would be appreciated and kept quiet. Thanks.
No, we did not. We have seen numerous articles claiming that the Iraqis MAY have captured Zarqawi, but they did not know it was him and subsequently released him.
Haven't gotten anything yet, alas...
Somebody freepmail me too. This sounds crazy on the surface. I sure hope there is more to it...(like finding the damn weapons that were shipped out before the war)
Why were they on the list in the first place, then? And now we're releasing them? This is not going to play well in the heartland.
I would like to think so, but sometimes I really wonder.
I have absolutely no problem with her accidentally getting hit by a car.
The Iraqi government (the new one) seems to have allowed this to happen. They must know something we don't.
ON their way to Obama bin Ladin right now . . . .
