I'm curious, Howlin' - you seem to be up on things, so enlighten me. Anyone who wanted to know would be aware that the Federal government could monitor communications with a FISA warrant, which is basically always granted, and that the Feds don't even have to seek the warrant until 72 hours after they start monitoring. This is all public information, and was before last week.
What exactly is it about the Administration bypassing the FISA process that, if known to AQ, would somehow be helpful to them?
And does anyone have any doubt that FISA warrants would be easy to come by for folks with 'known ties to Al Qaeda'?

WOW.
In a thread last evening I wrote that I hoped President Bush would turn to American people and bypass the Senators, just like Regan did.
It seems my wish came true much quicker than I ever expected. Let's see what effect this will have.

The leaking factor may need to be injected here. I think that sometimes the group that actually knows what is happening in real time needs to be quite small to avoid losing out due to leaks.

Thanks for the ping.. This REALLY needed to be said, "Secondly, if people want to play politics with the Patriot Act.."
The rats have been playing politics with the Nations's Security all along, and now GWB has called them on it!!

Thanks for the ping, Howlin. I listened to a bit of it from my cube, but couldn't catch the whole thing. I'll be sure to tune in tonight for the re-run.

Thank you so much for posting the transcript! Alaska is 4 hours behind the eastern time zone so I was sound asleep when the President gave this press conference. I've read the entire transcript, and can't wait to see the replay of it on t.v. later. It is so refreshing to see our President stand up and speak out! I love it!

I did not watch the press conference, but based upon the transcript, the President seems to have hit the ball out of the park. The dems are mystifying to me. They seemingly had the President on the ropes regarding domestic issues. Then, they jump the shark and climb out on the National Security limb, a limb that has been sawed off on them time after time after time. Voila, its being sawed off on them again.
Re-take congress in 2006!?! Culture of corruption?!? Yeah, if the dems keep this up, I envision 60 seats in the Senate.

The sad truth is the left DO NOT want this President to show them up by winning this WAR; they won't admit we are at war. The Democrats are destined once again to lose as America watches them retreat even further from reality......a Democratic president would never protect this country; they must never be put in a position to even try......the WOT will be long; elect responsible people to lead this country.

I notice we have a few people here concerned that FISA is being overridden and they aren't paying attention. The president has clearly stated that they HAVE gone to apply for FISA warrants. Repeatedly.

Howlin. "My personal opinion is it was a shameful act, for someone to disclose this very important program in time of war. "
He looked like an eagle hunting for traitors in the room when he said it. Getting ready for the kill.
Lizarde. reminder to all: rerun tonight 8 pm eastern cspan 1
The White House does an excellent job of getting archival webcasts of Bush's addresses and conferences up on their website - usually within an hour.
A link to this latest webcast. It pleases me to see Bush utilizing the White House website to take his case directly to
The People. This direct approach mitigates
Olds Media filtering making our American Republic stronger, IMHO

I already set the satellite to remind me, AND to record it. This way I can stand up and cheer over, and over, and over again! My husband won't be home until tomorrow night and I know he'll want to see it too.

He stopped short of using the word "treason" because that denotes execution.

Anyone have the anti-Bush ping list? Where are they? He even stated Worker program is NOT Amnesty. HELLO! Where are the anti Bush folks?
...they're tuned in to CNN trying to find some tidbit to agree with...
