Women charged over nude dancing
Herald Sun ^ | 24 December 2005

FOUR women in conservative mainly-Muslim Malaysia have been charged with performing a striptease show, local media reported today.

The four women, who were waitresses at a nightclub in a Kuala Lumpur suburb, were charged with behaving in an obscene manner while dancing in the nude on December 16, said the New Straits Times.

Zainah Abdul Rahman, 23, Nor'ain Mamis, 20, Zaleha Abdul Rahim, 30 and Rena Miasin, 25, who were alleged to have been performing for a group of businessmen from Singapore, face up to three months in jail or a fine or both if convicted, said the Malay Mail.

Muslim Malays make up some 55 per cent of Malaysia's 25 million population but most Muslims follow a fairly tolerant interpretation of the faith.

Sounds like a real fun place!

Before you all start, I'm aware of the rules but there were no photos...

P.S. Is the Hampton Court Hotel still there at King's Cross? Stayed there for my R&R in '68.

a-HA! Cut off the water! Get Datuk Seriwi Mahathir Mohammed out of retirement to make a few pro-bumi, anti-Chinese speeches.

And blame the "Joooooooos," too, for good measure.

I suspect they uncovered their faces... Oh the shame of it!

I'm not sure about the Hampton Court. I'm in Melbourne and don't get up to Sydney too often.

Could be like one of those Japanese trains where the rail workers push the commuters in until they can shut the doors. Not pleasant, whichever way you think of it!

Saw two buses packed like that, (Bangkok.) They were driving in opposite directions and passed each other to closly. Peeled off a couple dozen passengers hanging out the sides. The police rolled them up in newspapers and put them in a truck like cord wood.

Hell! I got a 3 day 'in-country' in Vung Tau and 6 days in Sydney. Sydney was so popular then you had to be in-country almost a year. Also, you only got 6 days there instead of the 7 all the other locations received. Almost married a woman I met there who lived in Bondi on Flood Street. (16 Flood Street, Flat 4) Hmmm.... Memory isn't totally gone.

performing for a group of businessmen from Singapore

Arrest and prosecute their employers.

Cut the ugly head off this illegal menace at the top. If no one would hire them, they wouldn't perform. It is this illegal dancing that takes jobs away from legal performers, and drives down the bribe collections of all enforcers.

Of course, they're only doing the strip dances Muslims won't do, trying to eke out a meagre living.

Yep, still there - recently been the subject of a planning dispute - an argument between those who want its historic character preserved and those who want to redevelop it. But for the moment, as far as I know, it's still pretty much business as usual.

KL has a very vibrant night scene with great clubs and great music.

Sorry I am too lazy to do the necessary legwork, but there's a Muslim society in Malaysia that has a morality squad; they have powers to arrest people, and often they are out and about looking mainly for Malay girls who are clubbing and wear their skirts too high and too-revealing clothing (I have seen one of these arrests before). I am guessing this is what happened.

Malay women are some of the most beautiful in the world, IMO; those from Ipoh are notorious for their beauty.

Lot of mistakes in the article.

The women are not waitresses. They are freelancers who make a living doing this bouncing around from club to club.

A few clubs do this to attract customers - notices are normally sent out by SMS and when the "show" starts the doors to the club are locked.

I've been to one before that was held in Bangsar. Not anything to write home about, attractive girl dancing on a table - It was not nude nor was it "topless" (just very revealing clothing), in fact it was quite tame compared to what you see in the States.

That must make Scalia very happy. If only it was this country though and not some foreign land. :-(

There was a time when Kuala Lumpur was known far and wide by mariners for its “Blue Shows”. They made the Tijuana Boy’s Town area look mild in comparison.
