Eight people were taken to hospitals Friday after a pickup and MetroRail train collided in Midtown. It was the 121st accident since light-rail operations began in late 2003 and the 54th in 2005.
***
Roberts said the train was northbound on Main and had received a "vertical bar" signal to proceed into the intersection at Elgin when it and the eastbound pickup collided about 12:30 p.m
***
The middle portion of the three-section train was knocked off the track

Vehicles running into Metrorail vehicles in Houston used to be a regular recurring feature on FR. I haven't seen one for a while, so here's a Christmas present to the old crowd. I'll try to ping some of the regulars - I don't remember who had the ping list.
This one was different from the usual pattern. The driver rammed the train. He T-boned it near the middle. More commonly, drivers cut in front of the train and expect it to get out of their way.
The Houston paper announced at one point they weren't going to cover the collisions any more, but this one made it into the paper, although you had to dig to find it.

Digging in the Houston Commiecal is hazardous to your health. :)
I live north of Houston and the only ones that ride the mascocistic mass transit are the libs.

More commonly, drivers cut in front of the train and expect it to get out of their way.Bulls in Spain have been known to charge a motor car and even, getting onto the tracks, to stop a train, refusing to back up or leave the track when the train stopped and when, with much blowing of the whistle the train finally advanced, charging the engine blindly. I'm surprised there were 8 people on the train. Every time I see them, they're empty.

A train is a big thing not to be able to see and avoid. I don't feel sorry.

123 confirmed hits!
They must be running out of space on the side of the Folly Trolley to apply pedestrian/car/pickup decals.
I wonder if the "drivers" can qualify as aces yet? :)
Me, I just wish they would put some more interesting nose art on the darn thing.
