WASHINGTON CROSSING, N.J. Dec 25, 2005 — Hundreds of spectators along the Delaware River saw the first complete re-enactment since 2001 of Gen. George Washington's historic crossing.
Unlike the past three attempts, when days of precipitation pushed water levels and speeds above safety levels, this Christmas presented a more placid route from Pennsylvania to New Jersey.
Jim Gibson, portraying Washington in a full uniform replete with sword and peaked cap, and about 60 of his fellow re-enactors made it across in two longboats just as a raw mist became a steady rain.

I just re-watched "The Crossing" with Jeff Daniels as George Washington the other night. What a story.
TERRIBLE headline:
Could mean they "pulled it off," as in, they accomplished it successfully.
Or, it could mean they were "pulled off the attempt," as in, they were extracted from it, thus being "rescued" without success.

Headlines seem to be getting worse of late. Liberals should spend less time on indoctrination and should devote more time on teaching writing in journalism schools.
Should be mandatory viewing in school. I get depressed when I watch it. Few people have an understanding of the sacrifices made by soldiers during the Revolution.

This is the battle that turned the Revolutionary war. I am glad the re-enactors made it. Also glad the original group made it!LOL!
Did future president James Madison precede Washington this time also?
I live about ten minutes from Washington Crossing (which is in Pennsylvania, by the way) and the re-enactments are a great show for the family. That's a nice park over there.
I don't know the answer to that question....Colonial/Revolutionary War history is something that I am not familiar with and am trying to learn now. FReeper Pharmboy may be the best person to answer your question.
Beautiful state you have there (Penn.). I spent my first few years in the US in the vicinity of Valley Forge.
In the real thing, James Madison preceded Washington across the Deleware. The trick question is..What future president was the first to cross the Deleware that night...the answer is Madison.

I remember meeting my wife for picnics on the vast expanses of lawn at Valley Forge Park back in the early '80s.
Don't quite know what you mean by "precede." James Monroe was a 17 year old soldier who was wounded the next day at Trenton bravely charging a Hessian cannon. Perhaps it is that future president you are referring to...
I'm reminded of the effort to re-enact the Civil War battle for Blakely Island. The effort was dropped when not one person volunteered to be a Yankee (union soldier)
