BOISE (AP) — Idaho, boosted by an influx of new residents and one of the highest birth rates in the nation, is the third fastest-growing state.
Estimates released by the U.S. Census Bureau today showed Idaho’s population grew by about 34,000 people, or 2.4 percent, between July 1, 2004 and July 1, 2005.
“Our strong economy continues to attract people and investment into the state,” Idaho Commerce and Labor Director Roger Madsen said in a statement.
But residents will likely still be able to find elbow room as the state’s population of slightly more than 1.4 million people ranks it as only the 39th most populous in the nation, while it ranks 14th in land area.
According to the Census, more than 61,000 people came to Idaho from other states, and an additional 14,500 came from other countries, easily outnumbering residents who moved away.
Idaho also had the sixth-highest birth rate and sixth-lowest death rate. The state’s 7,776 births per 100,000 residents offset the state’s 3,656 deaths per 100,000.

Yeah, we moved to Arizona from California last year and have not regretted it. The summer weather takes some getting used to, but otherwise Phoenix reminds me a lot of California about 30 years ago. The Phoenix metro area is growing rapidly. Housing prices are up about 40% in the last 18 months, but are still far below San Diego county where I used to live. We're looking for a little dip in housing prices to buy next year but I'm not waiting for a big decline. Ten percent is about the maximum decline that I'm expecting, and houses still seem really cheap to me after living in San Diego county.
People are jumping as fast as they can from those RAT-infested ships...lol.
I know a woman who lives in Chandler who bought her house 8 years ago for 89K, with pool, on a lake. Now it's worth 375K

I am very proud to say I was born in Idaho, as were my parents and 2 brothers and 1 sister. It's a beautiful state.
They still can't find any contestants to represent the state in the Miss USA Ebonics pageant, though...

Yes, that kind of price gain is very common around here. My parents bought their house in San Diego in the 1950's for $27K. After they passed away a couple years ago, we fixed it up and sold it for over a million bucks. San Diego home prices are in the stratosphere. I did a calculation and the average annual compound gain on that house was right around 8% during the time my parents owned the house. It's tough to beat coastal southern CA real estate as an investment, but 5% annually is probably more realistic over the next few decades. Arizona will probably beat San Diego in home price gains over the next five years.
I actually grew up in SE Washington State, which was a great place to grow up, but we always had relatives to visit in Idaho. I loved going there as a kid. Both mom and dad were from large families, and we had lots of cousins to play with.
Conservative women tend to get married and have families. Liberal women are tend to have other priorities and make different choices.
We didn't get the whole million bucks. I have two siblings who shared in that inheritance. :-)
That was once a great city. I remember going there on a family vacation when I was nine years old and having a 7-up at the Top of the Mark Hopkins hotel restaurant. Then we walked on the Golden Gate bridge in our ski jackets in windy 60-degree summer weather. Now I wouldn't even want to visit SF.
After a couple of good cold winters, they'll be gone...

No kidding, it's like East Germany or something. People fleeing.
I couldn't live in a blue state at all. Most of them have crappy weather (northeast/Chicago) and I don't care for earthquakes for CA. Let them stew in their self-created messes.. I just hope as they flee they don't try to bring the communism with them, but they usually do.
