It's a shame she didn't die before breeding.

I agree there is no case, the label on those cans are clearly marked...possible Darwin candidate...

But oooo, that was harsh!

Let's institute "loser pays" and then ask the daughters if they still have trouble sleeping.

Lol. I can't remember if the piece was on FOX, CNN or Headlinenews. Unfortunately, they didn't let you hear him playing very much. Sounds like he performs regularly in a N.Y. club.

I was thinking the same thing. Hot water always does the trick.

I don't know about New York, but some states, like California, have comparitive negelegenge laws. Under the comparitive negelegence doctorine, even if the plaintiff is 99% to blame for her injury, as perhaps in this case, the defendant's 1% of the blame can still lead to a sizeable judgment if the damages are large enough.

It's ironic, I guess, but the notion of comparitive negelegence was itself seen a a reform from the strict contributory negelegence laws which bared the injured party from recovering anything if the situation were reversed an the defendant was 99% liable, but the plaintiff was only 1% to blame.

Watch carefully during the dance scenes, I think you'll spot Lorraine in the background.

What she did is beyond stupid. Of course it is the fault of the can and/or the hairspray company could not possibly be the mother's fault.

I don't use hair spray but all other aerosol cans that we have say do to puncture or incinerate. Guess she could't read.

The attorney(ies) for the daughters probably things Unilever US will settle rather than go through the cost of a court case. However, I can't believe it would not get thrown out of court.

Darwin award candidate?

"The pilot light of the gas range ignited it”

OK I have sympathy for the family for their loss and for the excruciating pain she must have endured before her death, but who doesn’t know not to puncture an aerosol can and who the hell sprays hair spray near an open flame? Lack of common sense cannot be legislated and litigated. I hope they loose their case.

BTW, if your hair spray nozzle gets clogged, try running it under some warm water then turn the can upside down and depress and repeat until unlogged. Works for me every time.

"With the can opener, Lorraine Squicciarini opened a hole in the bottom of the Aquanet can in an attempt to clear the nozzle," according to the complaint. "The contents, including vapors and highly flammable and explosive materials," spurted from the can.

Uh..isn't the nozzle on the other end of the can?

That seems to be the common experience. I get pump bottles, but the same thing happens.

One would think. I am pretty sure that Aquanet isn't much more than compressed alcohol and sugar. This is off the top of my head, please correct me if I am mistaken.

I lived next door to a kid who was dropping firecrackers into a five-gallon gas can on the front porch. He went the same way as did his parents' house. I don't think they sued the gas station or the gas can manufacturer, though.

This is, in no way, the manufacturer's fault. If the seam of the can had opened by itself without any improper handling, or something of that sort, they might have a case.

The plaintiff will probably win the suit. It seems that whatever the most ridiculous and unjust possible outcome is in any particular case, in today's court system- that's always who seems to win.

Schoen said the daughters base their suit on alleged manufacturing and design defects and inadequate warning and instruction labeling, as well as the trauma they suffered as a result of the tragedy.

What design defects?!! Will all Aquanet products be shipped now in a huge, steel tank that is normally used for liquid propane gas or something? What would keep the next idiot from taking a Sawz-All to it? Would that be Aqua-net's fault, too?

I'm sorry- this 'lawsuit' is straight-up gold-digging.

LOL! I said, "in a pinch" but I wouldn't recommend it. It might work? Haven't tried it myself. Might be a job for "Mythbusters."

"hope I die from..."

When I die, I want to go the way my Grandfather did...peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming like the people in his car.
