DETROIT -- A former disc jockey at a Detroit country radio station has seen her award in a perfume lawsuit dramatically reduced.
A federal jury this spring awarded Erin Weber (pictured, right) $10.6 million. She said station owner Infinity Broadcasting fired her in 2001 after complaining about an allergic reaction to another host's perfume at 99.5 FM WYCD. Infinity said Weber was fired for not coming to work.
A federal judge reduced the award to $814,000. He said he was tempted to throw the jury's entire verdict out because he questions whether Weber really has a perfume allergy.
Weber's lawyers plan to take the case to a federal appeals court.
Sure, why not?

10.6 million? I really DO have allergic reactions to certain kinds of perfumes....how much can I get? And if she's REALLY allergic to perfume, she should carry an inhaler.
How I wish I could find a company to work for that would ban their employees from wearing the horrible stuff on the job. And believe me, I've tried to find one.
I know someone who has a bad allergy to perfumes, she's even allergic to scented candles.
The $814,000 is probably EXACTLY enough to pay her lawyer.
Never sued anybody, though.
For 10 million, or even 800k, I'd gladly live with such an allergy :-)
Funny thing, I have a severe allergic reaction to rose oil extracts perfumes, cremes, etc. However real roses do not affect me in any way. In fact one of my hobbies for years has been growing roses. Weird.
So everyone should change to accomodate you? Sorry, doesn't fly.

Sounds like you - rose oil is expensive, so it is typically diluted with the carrier agent...
Sounds logical to me. It must be what concentrates and amplifies the scent to such a great degree. The natural, delicate aroma of roses gives me no problem. But I have literally gasped for breath when a woman wearing too much of the 'rose oil' perfume has stood next to me. And trust me, I ain't no wimpy/wussy guy getting a case of the 'vapors'...lol. That carrier addition may be the culprit.
Which explains that - I am allergic to grapes. Can't even drink wine.
(Whisky is ok...LOL)
In my first year of law school in contracts class I loaned my jacket to a very pretty classmate who was complaining that she was cold. When I put the jacket on after class for the ride home on my motorcycle, the allergic reaction to her perfume on the jacket was so severe that I was bedridden for three days.
I never saw that coming.
When fragrances make a person physically ill - YES. Its the same as smoking. Its also called consideration. If I didn't have this proven medical problem and worked with someone who couldn't handle fragrances, I wouldn't think twice about not wearing it.
