Polar bears defy extinction threat (Flashback: Global warming just isn't killing them!)
The Scotsman ^ | February 7, 2005 | CHRIS MCAULEY

THE world’s polar bear population is on the increase despite global warming, which scientists had believed was pushing the animal towards extinction.

According to new research, the numbers of the giant predator have grown by between 15 and 25 per cent over the last decade.

Some authorities on Arctic wildlife even claim that hunting, and not global warming, has been the real cause of the decrease in polar bear numbers in areas where the species is in decline.

A leading Canadian authority on polar bears, Mitch Taylor, said: "We’re seeing an increase in bears that’s really unprecedented, and in places where we’re seeing a decrease in the population it’s from hunting, not from climate change."

Recently, we've heard a lot of reports about how polar bears are being endangered because of global warming. Strange how things can change in just one year!!

global warming.

The earth will have to burn up and it will have to reach 150 F in Phoenix before I will ever be convinced that "man" had anything to do with this. Methane helps with green house gas generation - imagine if 6Billion people all had horses or mules to pull themselves around with!!

Any bets that some 'scientist' will soon claim that the population increase of polar bears is "consistent with global warming"?

"The polar bears sense they are in danger from global warming and are trying to overpopulate themselves for their survival".

Funny, I thought there was just a story saying they were drowning because they had to swim much farther now.

One day to the next the story changes.

Global warming "science" is nothing but theorizing based on strictly anecdotal "evidence."

The only criteria to be met is to say the kind of things that will keep funding flowing in.

"Funny, I thought there was just a story saying they were drowning
because they had to swim much farther now."

Yep. The link below leads to the print summation of ABCNews Bill
Blakemore's "ALL THE POLAR BEARS ARE DYING!!!!!!" presentation on
ABC World News Tonight.
Yep, it's all the fault of the USA. But Blakemore never seems to have
the brainstorm to turn around and say to his Eskimo hosts: "HEY,
you guys are all now running around in cars, your kids are doing
wheelies with their ATVs, you use a motor-driven boat, fly in planes and
live in heated homes (not cold igloos).
And you encourage ecotourists to fly/boat in and out of here...
Are you sure that being modernized Esikmos isn't the real problem?

Of course, now it's HUNTING that is killing them. Hopefully the MSM won't decide FR is killing them, next.

The WWF [World Wildlife Fund] website states: "By 2100, there may be no ice left in the Arctic in the summer. That means no polar bears. Global warming - caused by fossil fuels - is to blame."

Be wary of organizations & scientists who have a vested interest in crisis.

One year? Try two weeks! Why just two weeks ago we were bombarded by pictures taken from helecopters showing bears running for their lives from "global warming", and swimming out and drowning because the ice is to far from shore.

In reality, these 'evniromentals were CHASING polar bears with helecopters so the could get the shot on film, and polar bears do not "swim out" to the ice flows. They swim in from them in the spring before they drift out to sea.

Of course, most people who see these fraudulant adds never give it much thought, and are tricked into thinking there is a problem.

Polar bears don't live on the ice year round, they hibernate on the tundra during the summer. There is no ice on Hudsons bay during the summer. Polar bears eat baby seals that are born on the ice late jan-Feb and can't swim. They eat their parents too as they come up through breathing holes for air. This is a seasonal thing as well, the seals head out to sea and feed on cod during the summer, while the bears go hybernate and have their young during the summer. I thought these Eviro wienies at least knew how polar bears operate. Gezzz!

I saw that. polar bears drinking coca cola with peguins and dancing.

You'd think Coca Cola would do a little research are realize penguins are south pole creatures, and there are no polar bears at the south pole. It doesn't give me much faith in their product. Who knows what they put in there not realizing it may be harmfull to humans because they didn't do the research...

They don't put in it what they used to. The Coca in Coca Cola stood for cocaine originally. It was a real picker upper or calmer downer, whatever you needed.

"eskimos living in igloos"

A great many liberals think that it's just fine for undeveloped or primitive peoples to live in ..er..well... undeveloped and primitive conditions. They much prefer the image of the "noble savage" who isn't going around polluting Mother Earth...like they (libs) do. The fact that we were all noble savages at one point before being civilized escapes them totally.

Have you read State of Fear by Michael Crichton? Excellent book and he speaks to that topic as well as global warming all rolled into a fast paced story line. One of the libs meets up with the "simple, gentle" primitive people and he gets his just desserts (and so do they!).

Polar bears are slipping on the melting ice and drowning is ever greater numbers. Yet, the population is increasing. Must be nature's way of keeping a balance.

I'll bet you are right! I can hear it now. Of course the enviros are still insisting that the bears must be listed as endangered, they just might have to insist that their over population is putting them in danger of outgrowing thier habitat.
