SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - The city of San Francisco reached agreement with the National Rifle Association on Wednesday to temporarily delay enforcing part of a voter-approved handgun ban.

Voters on Nov. 8 approved banning the sale and possession of handguns in the city. Residents still must get rid of their weapons by April 1. But the NRA and city agreed to delay from Jan. 1 to March 1 the deadline for banning the sale of handguns in the city.

In exchange for the postponement, the NRA agreed to abandon its bid for a temporary restraining order and instead have the issue litigated in the courts - a move that will ultimately resolve it more quickly. The NRA sought a restraining order the day after the measure was approved.

Give up your guns on April Fools Day?

What a novel idea!!!!

Who in their right mind will obey this unlawful proclamation? Only idiots and people who are afraid they will become criminals. Because there was a signature on a piece of paper that says they are a new breed of criminal no different than the old breed of criminal.

From my cold dead hands...............

Hah hah hah, we should send a note to the ACLU and encourage them to have all such cities renamed. It would be a hoot to watch them try it.

Politicians that would take away your right to defend yourself from violent criminals are as dangerous as the criminals

After the ban goes into effect, one can expect to see a dramatic rise in assaults, burglaries, and robberies. The libs response will not be to realize the ban has disarmed the populace, but they will instead demand the gun ban be widened.

The ban will NEVER go into effect.

In California, all gun laws are reserved to the state. The city has no power to curtail (or, for that matter, encourage) the use of handguns.

This is the basis of the NRA suit. Thus, the city of San Francisco has agreed to have its illegal ordinance adjudicated in court before attempting to enforce it.

San Franfreako was named after a monk

Si, senor! El Ciudad de San Francisco de Assisi.

I used to love pointing that out to the frothing freaks on the wrong (west) side of the Bay, when they would jump on me for calling it "The City".

Just using the first two words, rather than the third & fourth words. If one is wrong, then so is the other. :)

BTW, it is the only CITY where I ever actually fired a gun other than at a range. I shot a rat in the back 'yard' that was trying to chew its way into flat I was renting. I've seen smaller possums.

Note to all you folks in San Fran. I will store your handguns in a safe place (Virginia) for a nominal monthly fee, and will test fire them for you as well. They will be safe from the gun grabbers until such a time as you get rid of this stupid law and the politicians that enact them.

"Can you imagine any sane person giving up their gun?"

Sure. The piece-of-crap he or she kept for that purpose, only, of course. Nothing safe to shoot.

I remember well taking Hwy 1 from SF's Mission district (23rd & Guerrero back in 1990) down thru Daly City on my way to visit friends in Santa Cruz.

It never failed to be an awesomely scenic drive.

If anyone asked me where my gun was and why I didn't turn it in, I'd just say it was stolen, my nephew from Florida borrowed, etc. I bought and kept my first handgun while living in Chicago, a city that also bans them.

Why did they bother? State level preemption renders it useless anyway.

"a city that also bans them."

I left California over 30 years ago because I saw crud like this coming. I now live in Oklahoma, where it shouldn't happen any time soon.
