Lynndie England, the U.S. soldier incarcerated for abusing detainees in Iraq, was badly burned in a prison kitchen accident, her mother said on Thursday.
England works in the prison's kitchen, where she suffered second- and possibly third-degree burns from being splattered with grease over her chest as she removed chickens from a tall oven, her mother, Terrie England, said in an interview.
"She was in severe pain," she said of the December 14 incident. "Everybody in the prison heard the scream."
Terrie England, who is caring for England's infant during her incarceration, faulted prison officials for not giving better treatment during a visit to the emergency room.
"They gave her nothing," she said. "When this happened I was furious. ... To think they give you nothing for pain."
Brewster Schenck, a spokesman for Consolidated Brig Miramar, confirmed England had been assigned to the kitchen, where inmates prepare and serve food mostly for other prisoners. He declined to discuss the accident or her medical condition.
Terrie England said the arrival of her daughter at the military prison caused a lot of curiosity, including autograph requests. "It wasn't just prisoners, it was guards and everything," she said.
She said Lynndie England had been taking a Bible prayer class in prison and telephoning home from prison about once a week.
In a September interview with Reuters, England blamed her involvement in the Abu Ghraib scandal on then-lover Charles Graner, who is serving a 10-year sentence on abuse charges and is the father of her baby.

She spill the grease from a pan? No way you are going to get enough grease to seriously hurt someone spattered directly off of a baked chicken.

You know this sort of remark requires you to post a picture of yourself so we can all make childish and mean spirited remarks about your looks.
If we don't like the way you look than we can wish you harm. Sounds fair, right?

they did to those PRISONERS That is not the problem, this dumbbell disobeyed a direct lawful order not to be in the prison. She was a clerk.
To: All
And, just to be clear, although it was war, what this silly little girl did was to allow herself to be photographed 'humiliating' the prisoners - not hurting or torturing, humiliating. And yes, I will say 1 is better than the other. You get over humiliation much more easily. One of the guys who was humiliated by Lyndie then said to the press that all that notwithstanding, he wouldn't mind immigrating to the US. Got over pretty quickly, wouldn't you say?
I can't believe some of the comments on here - no sensitivity at all and a lot of judgement. For those of you casting aspersions on her fortitude, the article does say she was removing the chickens from a *tall* oven. You might say she couldn't see, possibly lost her balance, the contents moved, she got splashed with hot oil, whatever. Lyndie is neither a hero, nor a wimp. Those of you, though, who have made insensitive, obnoxious comments, might want to examine yourselves by the same standards of judgement you did Lyndie.
I've been here less than a year and I know that there are some crude dregs here, but tonight, I'm speechless.
To: org.whodat
okay, so I understand. but the "Abu Ghrab scandal"... don't care. I don't care. It's war. Did you know 5 million German children died in our bombing of Germany World War II? That's innocent children. So do I give a crap about some insurgents who we caught being made to do a pyramid? No. Our men have gone through worse torture. That's kiddie stuff compared to true torture. I don't care.
To: LauraleeBraswell
What she did has nothing to do with World War II, or what has happened to Americans. It has to do with what's right. Don't get me wrong, I don't care if we use a little coercion to get some information, but her actions were irresponsible and useless.

It seems out of character if you look at his other posts. I think he might've been trying to say that which has been said much better by org.whodat and Madison Moose. As stated by those gentlemen, it is a position which with I wholly agree, but oolatec just hit a new level of crass. I hope he also finds the class in himself and admits, if only to himself, that he said something really jerky.

I hear you absolutely-notaliberal,
Lyndie was just a pawn, and what went down at Abu Ghraib was next to nil in the world of torture.
Look at how our own people came back from Hanoi Hilton, read about them. Do some reading from political escapee's from Cuba. The movies don't even get close to it much of the time.

I didn't know it either, but I just read that Miramar houses DOD female prisoners. Seems a shame she has to serve so far from home, with a new baby back in W. Va with her mom. I do feel some compassion for her, due to her low I.Q. She was easily led astray.

How? She did not "torture" them mr mccain. Harsh language and a bit of taunting is nothing.
Now I understand that sometimes the other boys back in elementary school might have been mean.... but adults can probably avoid allowing that cause misplaced empathy now that they are grown up

I never saw any use to what she did. There is a difference between what she did and the legitimate use of torture/coercion on Al Queda or other terrorists.
To: jmc1969
I don't mind her dragging dog-collared terrorists around and putting dirty panties on them.
Gee. Years ago a buddy and me used a military truck to steal boxes of booze and ice from the Officer's Club and a few squadrons' enlisted folks had parties with no questions asked. The Senior Master Seargent just kept his mouth shut. My buddy and me were honorably discharged when the time was up for us. We wrote him from civilian life to tell him what we did. He knew and just kept quiet because we were very good at it:):) We were smart.
We didn't hang around with some other guys that decided to bring a bunch of Spanish hookers on base in a 2.5 ton truck. The OSI ran all over the place looking for them. Those guys got kicked out for being stupid. We avoided those guys and did "smart" pranks. Not that we couldn't avoid a rope around our necks if we got caught:)

I wonder what REALLY happened? Probably the "muslim sisterhood" nailed her.
I can tell you in no uncertain terms that what happened to her was one of two things. An accident or a personal beef with another inmate. No way that this was related to what happened in Abu Yabba Doo.
No inmate will take it upon themselves to do something to another inmate unless it is personal, a contract hit or beatdown or gang related. Out of a sense of righting a social injustice? Never gonna happen. I spent too many years in prison and know how these things work.

umm, read the article again. It was chickens (plural) in a tall oven. She's a little shrimp and she was reaching for a pan of chickens probably about eye level to her and the grease got down the front of her. I knew someone who was burned like that taking something out of the upper level of a double oven.
Chickens got alot of fat on them.
I still think she got was too harsh a sentence. Those poor humiliated Iraqi's are probably still getting wet dreams about all that "abuse".
