arnie has been handing around the Kennedy compound too long. Here is what the minimum wage does:
Makes it harder for young people entering the labor market with no skills to get a job.
Causes a trickle up effect raising prices for everyone.
Is contrary to the economic law that says government should not set wages and prices.
Causes those on the lower labor market to lose their jobs.
Kick me again Arnie.
What was the famous Irishman's memorable line? Blind loyalty is such a wonderful thing. What a crime to waste it on the CAGOP.
Yikes!
OMG, he's beginning to sound like gigilo, wth is happening to him - do you think teddy hiccup aka the swimmer has gotten to him?
Okay. You win. You're the #1 Ahnold Schwarzy apologist of all time.
You're not fooling one living FReeper or lurker with that bogus crappola any longer. Stop wasting keystrokes and making yourself look so "starstruck" that you can't even think straight. It's unbecoming!!!
Cheer up. Very few make the minimum wage in California, even the illegal day laborers. The economic impact will be minimal. No, I don't favor the minimum wage; I prefer along with Milton Friedman, the negative income tax.
Don't you think this board is more interesting when various and sundry public personalities have their very own Freeper consigliare, to defend, and defend, and then defend their "client," some more?
A very valid point. This topic would be boooooring if all participating had the same viewpoint. Challenges, no matter how trivial or silly, bring out emotion and emoting adds zest.
Arnie is being as cheap as the Rats! I agree, we can do much better than $7.75 an hour!
Read my tagline - five cents gained for losing control over the borders and for impoverishment of American workers.
The impact here tends to depend on whether or not the minimum has fallen so far behind actual wages that increasing it makes a difference to businesses. In the instant case, it'll have some impact, but the odds that it'll be significant are roughly the same as the odds that Chelsea will lose on any given Saturday.
A fascinating stat. Offers real perspective but unfortunately we're well beyond that startling truth.
If lettuce harvesters in the Salinas Valley were paid $20/hr Mexico would be vacant, Fox would be on the county board of supervisors and Nunez would be governor.
Reverse is true. There would be plenty of Americans willing to do this job, the border would be CLOSED and the labor saving technological progress would be back on track.
Then there is the foreign union problem. The minute wages are respectable for foreign labor, unions swoop in to siphon off the discretionary income. Foreign unions, the largest in the US, principally service employee locals, are the force driving anchor babies to power in the California Legislature. Their lawyers and top management have risen through the ranks in the LA basin and now command political power. Both Nunez and Cedillo are products of that system.
Lastly, the consequences of illegal immigration are US citizens. Their reproductive rates assure that they will dominate California demographics in my lifetime. They will be the Americans willing to do this job.
The problem is well beyond adjusting labor rates. California is probably past the tipping point if the consequences of illegal immigration aren't assimilated and they will never be assimilated unless the tide is forcibly stemmed.
Oh, there is...but the California GOP and their RINO-loving slope-headed morons won't support them. It runs counter to their "big tent" liberalism.
But you misunderstand - the businesses that hire illegals _dont_ pay minimum wage, they pay less than minimum wage.
Besides, do you really want the gov'ment deciding whose busienss is 'close enough to the wire'? A penny here, a penny there, that's how you wind up with your cell phone bill being 37% taxes and how you wind up shutting down businesses.
"Blind loyalty is such a wonderful thing. "

You should know. YOUR blind loyalty to the CA leftist Democrats is painfully obvious.
I admire your persistence in arguments with Republican trolls but I think it's more efficient to simply do what you do well.
When a troll launches a deception; post the facts. When the troll spins the facts or attempts a misdirection; post more facts pertinent to the original matter. Trolls run out of energy and enthusiasm for the game long before facts are exhausted.
If a troll can bring you down their level, exchanging personal vitriol, they'll usually win. They have much more experience with life in the gutter or under the bridge. Stay on the high ground, hold your nose with your left and keep pitching with your right until the odor subsides.
