Judge Grants Hinckley Overnight Visits

WASHINGTON - A federal judge Friday loosened the restrictions on John W. Hinckley Jr., allowing the hospitalized presidential assailant to spend seven overnight visits with his parents in Williamsburg, Va.

Hinckley, who shot President Ronald Reagan in 1981,

had been permitted to leave St. Elizabeths Hospital in Washington for outings around the nation's capital. He wanted to make longer trips and travel outside the area to his parents' community in southeastern Virginia.

U.S. District Judge Paul L. Friedman ruled Hinckley could be allowed three, three-night visits and another four, four-night visits.

"He is not permitted to leave one or both parents' supervision at any time during the course of the conditional release" except when the hospital deems it necessary, Friedman ruled.

The government had opposed Hinckley's requests to visit Williamsburg, a three-hour drive from the forensic hospital where he has been held since 1982.

When Hinckley shot Reagan and three other people in 1981 as the president emerged from a downtown hotel, he was suffering from major depression and a psychotic disorder that led to an obsession with actress Jodie Foster.

Hinckley, found not guilty by reason of insanity in 1982, said he shot Reagan to impress Foster.

His doctors have said his depression and psychosis are in full remission.

Hey, I hear Hinckley is now allowed night visits. Anyone else want to come with me some night and pay him a visit?

Not really, they don't mention it here, but he still exhibits weird behavior and is still obsessed with Jodie Foster.

The shrinks, to put it simply, are just siding with him.

Why don't you ever call John?
I think about you all the time John.
John, there's something I want you to do for me...

Can any of us cite an example of an honest utterance by a "conservative psychologist"? Does this critter even, actually, exist?

Great minds and all that. But really, Moore, Kerry and Dean are all Rovean Manchurian plants. Chuck Schumer is probably the most annoying human being in politics today. Only because Tiny Tim is dead.

Perish the thought. He whose name shall never be mentioned wouldn't last 10 minutes on the outside. The 'peace love and acorns' crowd would kill him in less time than one single Tookie appeal hearing took ......

I actually went to school with 2 guys who became shrinks who are conservative.

I don't know if counts or not, since they both hated their jobs and one of them has since left the profession, while the other is leaving this year coming up (neither one is leaving due to politics, though one of them saw an uptick in business after the elections).
