World in the Balance [PBS says AIDS is caused by lack of government funding]

According to PBS, we're not only the world's policemen AND punching bag, we're also the world's nanny. But PBS would be the first to howl if we tried to impose a little morality in an attempt to stop this epidemic in some of these countries riddled with AIDS. PBS is a complete waste of time and ought to be de-funded.

Actually, the article doesn't take technology into account.

We can turn worthless sand into valuable computer chips. We can desalinize water for 1/3 penny per gallon. The ocean has all the uranium we could ever need for electricity and energy. Modern agriculture can grow all the food we need. The earth is full of rocks for building materials. Tree farms can give us all the lumber, wood, and paper we could ever need.

With all that technology, there can be a first world standard of living for 9 billion people.

Paul Ehrlich was wrong in all of his predictions. He said that as the populaiton doubled from 3 billion to 6 billion, we'd run out of food, water, energy, etc. In reality, these things have all become more abundant, not less.

Yep, we all know how decades of government funding for AIDS education in this country have kept gay men from getting methed out of their brains and barebacking in bathhouses in this day and age.

Whoops, they're still doing that. What gives?

Where has PBS been? Have they never heard about the government denying people AIDS drugs because they don't want to admit the disease exists? and that is just for starters..... China has AIDS and denies in .. along with a lot of other countries.
