Denio Junction on the way to Guano Valley in Oregon. Open in the Summer only!!!! Great country.
That stretch of highway, from Truckee to 50 miles East of Sparks is brown-trousers time even in the middle of Summer. Trucks are going anywhere from 35 to 95 MPH.
I am in the middle of the Sierras and MAN IT IS FREAKING CRAZY OUT THERE!!!
The wind is about 40mph with bursts up to 60 and rain is falling like buckets.
Not good for the Sacramento region which depends on New Orleans like levees because the enviro-wackos stopped the construction on a dam in Auburn.
Will that be the roast leg of Fred? And will that be with Basil or Rosemary?

Me Too!! I'm in Twain Harte.
Colfax. Right now, the water flowing through my pond is the highest and fastest I have ever seen.
I have a giant redwood whose roots have started lifting the driveway and that is OK.. I am more worried about it lowering my roof!
I have a sister who lives in Truckee. Not Truckee proper but probably another thousand feet up. Beautiful area, but I've always hated that I-80.
Someone has been building a house that was saved from the fires a few years ago. It's on the other side of I-80 across the Truckee River where the fires were the worst. Hope that home didn't get hit with the mudslide.
There's a spot on the top of Heavenly Valley where you look down one side and see the snow, then turn 180 degrees and see Nevada desert/green.
Sister Sheehan didn't get caught in a Rovian Storm did she??
Pray for W and Our Iraq Freeing Troops
I don't go up there in the winter. Well, I have once. But I've never had the pleasure of skiing Heavenly Valley and seeing that vista.
I don't mind the rain, but the wind whipping these big old pine trees is making me a little nervous! Good luck with your redwood. Yikes!!
That house you describe is also close to the river's edge. Could be a double whammy for that property.
There's some really beautiful country on the left coast. If you ever have a spare week, I'd suggest a drive from L.A. up the PCH to SF, then across to Tahoe to Reno, then down through the desert to Vegas and back to L.A.
In related news: Looter Guy has been seen in San Fagcisco!
Happy New Year to Our Victorious Troops
I wonder if the bridge they were building for two years was the weak area. It brought you into Truckee. Gosh, I can't remember the name of the offramp. I just know after the bridge, I got off I-80.
Yeah, that's true. I-15 out of Las Vegas is in great shape - then it gets decidedly worse across the California border.
I'm from Laguna Beach. My sister lives north of San Francisco. I have brothers and sisters all the way up the coast.
My niece, her husband and two-year-old boy are on their way back to So. Cal. from Oregon right now. Holy moley!
Yep, and brunch at the Squeeze In. Nothing better!!
