At the train station in the middle of town, there's a Computer Cafe which consists of one computer. LOL!

Talk about stuck. Here, just south of Mt. Shasta

If I were to be stuck, I might pick just that spot.

:-)

I was backed up behind a horrendous multi-car pileup on I-80 in Jersey last Friday morning...there was freak ice-storm and then a 60 minute delay.

By the time I got to the scene of the crime, there were still about a dozen cars and semis waiting for extraction. And along with that, I saw the damnedest thing: along the side of the road were strewn random car parts (a green hood, a red door, a white bumper, etc.) with no corresponding vehicle anywhere to be found. It was like a salvage yard exploded. Very surreal.

The wife and I have been living in South America for about 5-years and last month were visiting relatives in the Sacramento/Roseville area. We drove to Reno and took the exit through Truckee...we really laughed as the town looks exactly like it did in the 70s and 80s...different dogs wandering around, but not much else seems to have changed.

Agree, we need the Auburn dam.

Latest news on the landslide closing I-80. Slide is located at Iceland Rd. It is approximately 300 feet wide and has pushed the lane dividers across the highway.

News reports now indicating that another landslide has struck I-80 in the Vacaville area.

Vacaville?

That's no landslide. It's just Cindy Sheehan's massive sense of self-importance slouching onto the pavement. Run for your lives!

Downtown hasn't changed at all in the 20-some years I've been going up there. But the property values have.

Caltrans continues to be concerned about Hwy 50. Last report was of minor slides in the vicinity of Bridal Veil Falls.

Highway 50 scares the you know what out of me in good weather, but it's a beautiful ride.

Is that the huge log cabin like house that has been under construction for years? The one I'm thinking about is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. I drove by it earlier this week. It didn't look like anyone is living there yet, but you could see tire tracks in the snow on the long narrow road that leads to the house. I could see it being taken out by a mud slide...

The 96/97 flood caused a major mud slide that shut hwy 50 down for months.

Yes, that's the one we're talking about. It looks vulnerable to both high water and a mudslide.

Someone has been working on that house for years and years. I'm so sorry to hear the mudslide got it. It was below the denuded forest near the Truckee River. You could see it on the left side of I-80 as you travel from Reno to Truckee.

There's a joint on the PCH -- near Big Sur -- blues/jazz, b-b-q/beer, and a small motel attached. Not to be missed.

Also, check the PGA before leaving. If you travel when there's a golf tournament, you'll never find a motel/hotel.

We don't golf! But we will check on the PGA tours. Good idea.

I want to go to this very small town of only Victorian homes. I can't remember the name of it, and I've never been there. It's either in central or northern CA.

Another place to go in three seasons, not summer, is Death Valley. I love that place.

Monterey is also nice, aquarium, Cannary Row etc. Santa Cruz is not worth the stop. Not sure when it is, but Gilroy has a Garlic Festival, which is not to be missed.

I can't wait!

Here's one of the places I want to visit. It's called Ferndale.
