Geez, you not only have to worry about invaders from the South, but the East as well!

Southerners are much better then Northeasterners with the exception of some Texans. Texas has long had a streak of socialists, from LBJ to Bill Moyers and Jim Hightower. A Texas socialists is responsible for the majority of gun control in California, State Senator Jack Scott, formerly of Sweetwater, TX.

The best California immigrants come from Oklahoma.

Ever notice how many bizarre sex offenders make it to the national news, from Florida?

It's like Florida has as many sex-criminals as half the rest of the country combined.

That's not....actually....funny, though.

I thought this was going to be a Dave Barry column. He's made a career out of Florida weirdness.

damn, read the entire article and didn't see anything else on the pitchfork robbery....I've been looking for a good six shot repeating pitchfork...anyone know where I can get one???

Sorry, most have only three tines. A few have four. No pitchforks that will repeat six tines. (Sorry, couldn't resist it.)

That's one of the problems - no neighborhood roots.

I come from Long Island - I knew everyone on my block and for several blocks over. People lived in their houses 40 years, and sometimes generations owned a home.

Here in FL people barely know their next door neighbors. It's too hot to spend time outside. And up until recently rents and houses were so cheap people moved in and out. It's nothing to see 4 or 5 for sale signs on one street.

It's a perfect opportunity for lowlifes and scammers. They just move on after they muddy their water.

There are more New Yorkers in FL than any other state. This explains a LOT of the weird behavior.

Help clean up the South....buy a yankee a bus ticket.

This isn't weird. Beagles are used in Guam to search for snakes hitching rides from Hawaii.
Right idea, but bacwards. No snakes live in Hawaii, too many green snakes hitchhiked into Guam, and ate most of the native bird population.

Close. It is actually the Guam Brown Tree Snake that has Hawaii in an uproar.

The Brown Tree Snake is not native to Guam, but arrived there in the early 1950s, probably in cargo shipments. Apparently, they multiply like rabbits, and in some areas of Guam live in densities of 30,000 per square mile. At least nine of Guam's twelve native bird species, half of its lizard species, and perhaps a bat species or two are extinct as result of the Brown Tree Snake. (Those are conservative estimates; some reports will tell you that virtually all bird life on Guam is gone. The forests are now silent.)

It's mildly venomous -- and a female can carry fertilized eggs in her body for up to seven years, so the only thing you need to start a population of Guam Brown Tree Snakes is a single female who "got lucky" in the last seven years.

The airports in Hawaii have beagles to sniff the landing gear of planes arriving in Hawaii from Guam in an attempt to detect and destroy any Guam Brown Tree Snakes.

Florida did indeed have scores of weird stories in 2005, from the woman who concealed a stolen parrot in her bra to a beagle puppy that was trained to sniff out pythons to a Key West man who robbed a bank with a pitchfork.

**giggle**

I've been living in South Florida for over 25 years and trust me.....it's ALL true. Just when you think that you've seen it all.......something else comes along!

Florida ... oh, jeez, the land of hurricanes, hanging chads, recount after recount, an even 50-50 'Rat/Repubic split, and stupid and careless voters causing a presidential election crises.

They can be smug.

Redneck, in my experience, is the person (not necessarily Southern) who not only specializes in doing things that make no sense, but is almost proud of it. For example, take your typical trailer park resident...
