Brokeback Canada: Gay movie is a hot ticket in Canada
Vancouver Courier ^ | December 29, 2005 | Fred Lee

Posted on 12/31/2005 8:11:40 PM PST by nwrep

Another hot ticket was Odeon Films and B.C. PWA’s premiere screening of Brokeback Mountain. B.C. Person’s With AIDS Society chair Paul Lewand welcomed a full house to the benefit showing. The epic American love story from Academy Award-winning filmmaker Ang Lee, based on the short story by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Annie Proulx, had the Fifth Avenue Cinema audience all hot and buttered. More bothered than buttered, Lewand is also currently embroiled in a dispute (along with artist Tiko Kerr and gay priest Michael Forshaw) with Health Canada to have compassionate access to the experimental HIV drugs TMC 114 and TMC 125.

Yeah, a "full house" of three-dollar bills.

It figures. Hot in Vancouver, Montreal, and Toronto. Let's see how it plays in gravy and fries country.

"Let's see how it plays in gravy and fries country."

In that case it'll be playing to "full houses" of crickets.

I know I'm hopelessly un-hip, but "compassionate access" is a new one on me (especially in this context).

Lewand welcomed a full house to the benefit showing

People will do along with nearly anything if you tell them it's for free. And why is this lunacy a "hot ticket" if it's shown as a benefit?

Why did the geography of this not surprise me?

This is getting to be a "chicken % egg question. Which came first, liberalism or in-your-face homosexuality?

"all hot and buttered"

Morford writes the same way, like he's writing a gay
porn novel with every column.

Stuff like that is why I keep being convinced homosexuality is a deviancy. Nothing about their sexuality seems normal.

I'll bet it was a real hoot watching the hosers eatin' donuts and drinking beers while watching two homosexual sheepherders gettin' it on up there on the silver screen. I'd have to pass on this one.

The "I wish I knew how to quit you" line has become quite the joke. There are reports of people howling with laughter at the trailer.

It may have what it takes to become one of the great comedy lines of all time, like "Where's the beef?", or "Wasssup?"

Nothing shuts up stupidity like good honest laughter.

As far as I know, none of the stories about the huge financial success of this movie have honestly mentioned that 20% of its total boxoffice receipts have come from just 5 movie theaters, located in predictable neighborhoods.

Will Canada jail movie critics who pan this bum of a flick?

Chi com director makes asses out of Americans...insults Wyoming and the American cowboy legacy.

The whole story line is total B.S. these sodomites weren't even cowboys...

This is the Hollywood sodomite revenge for Mathew Shepherd and another foray into trying to mainstream perversion while at the same time persuade young minds while creating a sodomite cult classic.

Wonder if the chi com is also a sodomite or just an agent of social anarchy working in his little red brother's behest?

This movie keeps harping on the fact that it has high "per theatre" numbers; however, they purposely opened in fewer theaters to bring out those numbers! The movie was hyped to the max, so you've got people cramming into the few theaters where it's released - instant good numbers for your movie!
